Computer question on IP address

Will this address lead a compter hacker right to me compter or just to my internet provider? I'm on a dial up system. What is a fire wall protection for, will that stop a hacker from inviding my computer?

Hey dude

If someone does get your IP address then it is possible for them to get into your computer. However, there is no easy way of people getting it unless they are, say a moderator in a forum. Your IP changes everytime you start up your computer so it's not as though once someone has it that's it.

I'm not too sure about the whole firewall thing. I don't have mine up as it would prevent me downloading files from programs such as Morpheus. - Lets you download songs, videos etc. Really good!

Since you are on a dial up...your IP will always be changing. So no worries there... Only people with access to your IP are mods anyway.

Firewalls do catch a lot of attacks a hacker or WANNABE hacker might make to gain access to your computer. So if you are paranoid...just go to download.com and do a search for "tiny personal firewall" it is a free program. Install and configure...you will be good to go

Different Guy, you can set it up so you can still use morpheus...you have to allow access to your computer through that program. Look into it

I use a firewall,Morpheus and Bearshare. I have had no problems.

Cheers bodybuilder, I'll get it then. On the subject of Morpheus, I've downloaded the preview edition 2.0 and it wont download. I couldn't connect with the previous version as it said it was out of date. I think I'll get Kazaa
