Computer purchase:Does this look decent?

Well this one has ez sliding dark tinted plexiglass windows. Very nice.

regardless it has a window's OS and well I'm not to thrilled with one but thats my personal feelings.. go for it because other than that it sounds good.

I got a Mac right now and I love but I'm starting to use Linux because that is what my boyfriends got on his.

I KNEW you were a Mac user. I could smell it. Actually I may look into Linux. I know it's a great OS but fear of the unknown has kept me from it. And plus I've been having good luck with Win2000. But now I'm going with XP Pro so we'll see.

I thought macs had one use, a paper weight . only reason you dont get virii is because noone wants to write something that will only affect 3% of the population of computer users.

Get real... of course those virus guys hate Macs, theyre easy, none complicated and less likely to crash, plus no blue screen of death! I love my mac used and all... the pc is just for me to go online and print stuff. And those stupid DLL files! AGH!!!!!!! There's alos more than 3percent using it lol. You couldn't give me a dell! But have a nice day!:D

haha go APPLE, sorry Apple user here too.

Hmm, system is it good? meh, graphics card itself is worth it, but Athlon I'm sketchy with (don't like AMD's products), it is a 64 bit chip, so that's not too bad. 64 bit chip is lots faster, so yeah your CPU isn't bad. RAM could use a lot, 512 DDR is okay, get some more RAM, is what I say, and a little faster speed. Question I don't know what motherboard that is but if it's got 800 mhz FSB speed or better than you pretty much have your ultimate gaming machine. Oh yeah, get rid of the LCD screen, they're slow, but since you have a good graphics card, that's debateable. XP? eh, XP's got lots of security leaks. Viruses are the least of your worries, spyware should be your number 1 worry, so get some Anti-spyware.

IF the total price is less than 1000 because I don't really get what you mean by +794 at the end. THen HELL YA that's pretty good. If it's 569+794, (1363) that's a little pricey.

actually key commands on apple's are different and the way the system works is different, so commands work differently, and some commands do not work at all. Dell??? Dell computers suck, they only give you 2 slots for RAM, so RAM becomes really expensive.

Oh yeah with the way apple OS is now, if you wanna write a virus you'd have to write a virus for Unix because it's a Unix based OS as opposed to a DOS based OS.

keep it like that, if you have a really fast CD burner/reader, it'll be a lot easier trust me. My PC has two burners, and the DVD burner is a lot slower when it burns CD's and reads, so if you're gaming, go for a really fast CD burner.

Sorry mac fans I use a PC too.

That's why I'm sticking with OS9.1 until forced to use OSX. Sometimes classic is just better. I know I'm not the only "downgrader" here....lol. I've seen a few people that after the got WINXP, they just wanted to go back to Win98 or ME. It messed up a friend of mines computer and he had to get a new one. Something to do with the Video. Go figure:rolleyes:

Actually Rydia, Tiger is a lot better. One of Tiger's functions makes Google look like the find function when you open up a document. THere's a lot of other nice things, the way they made OSX is a lot better, windows work better things like that. Also in Tiger there's a translator lots of other nice toys to play with. It even has the "force quit" which windows covetted and protected for a long time. Not only that, you can still have a console and code for Unix. It's also got lots of interesting software. Best part is that Apple doesn't gouge you out for OS prices.

I used a Mac before. I'm sure a fine computer. But using pc's too long. The actual cost of my machine minus monitor was $729 + $65 shipping. Monitor I already have but was considering a flat screen lcd. I have to buy XP pro. Should get that for $70.

hmm, well hope you read my other comments about your system, keep it with 2 burners. I'm surprised about how you can get XP Pro for 70, I'm inclined to ask where are you getting XP from?? My PC costed $680, but video card was not nearly as good. Although I did like the fact that it came with a really fast ethernet port integrated into it, then that got loose or something and the shop didn't wanna fix it instead they just gave me a card. (that sucked)

Yeah, suggestion on moniter is don't get an LCD, get a tube, but like I said that's debateable because your graphics card is really good. Also make sure you have enough RAM for your system and make sure the Front Side Bus is fast. Otherwise no matter how good your processor is it'll be slow.

Like I said I have an apple I have a PC I like them both for different reasons, they were made for two different worlds.

Well I believe the ram I'm getting in this machine is 133mgz. I will upgrade to a gig later but now 512 was cost effective. I'm really not getting this thing to play games. If I were I would have opted for the 256 card. I will have some games on it but only playing a few more than likely. Nothing too intensive.

You can find deals on software all over the net. I bought Norton Systemworks 2003 for 11.00. Just didn't come in a box and the guide was on PDF. Good thing too because I use AVG now.

I'm keeping the burners. Made the call today and I was right. One is merely a CD-RW and the other is a DVD-RW.

hmm, well then I guess it doesn't matter whether or not you have two burners. Gaming is really my thing, so even though I have 128 MB VRAM I still use a nice tube moniter. It's great because my moniter is pretty high quality so the pixels are really tiny. So I use it to watch TV.

hey hey you're not getting the point, I'm grateful you showed me that, actually. I just have no use for it as I already have XP in two languages I might add, and I don't want Adobe photoshop so there's not much needed for me there.

I'm really considering Linux but I know nothing about it whatsoever. I've heard it's similar to Windows but there is no software written for it out there ya know? Exactly what can I do with it? Surf the net and email? What about virus and spybot protection? It may as well be Japanese.

there's software out there for it. I don't remember what, if it works for mac it'll work for linux and unix usually. I"m pretty sure I don't remember exactly.

Unix and its brother Linux. were cruzzzing the web when Windows was at 3.1... It runs the web and I bet most mail servers you get mail out of is linux... and running the web runs through unix servers all over the place... It will fit in the Windows world or the Mac world and you can see it .. talk to it.. save files to it... run the web with it.. do mail with it... all with out Virus or Spy problems.. and the 500 or so programs that come with it.. is only the tip of the ice burg....
all for Free or 50.00 if you buy it and and a book... :)
