InstallShield is no longer on my computer!

How the heck does this happen? I know I had it and now it isn't. My wife told me about it like three weeks ago but I was a bit busy and the time and thought she was being stupid. Harsh, I know but I'm being honest. My wife is actually very good at the tech side of computers and I should have listened to her then.

Problem being how the hell do i get it back? The only thing I can think of is re-installing windows.

Any help?

ps. Hey, long time no see

If you've got XP you can go to Help & Support and then click on "System Restore" Since you say it happened about three weeks ago look on the calender and see if you have an automatic restore point around that time. If so, you can try restoring your computer to that point and see if it comes back. The only downfall is, if you downloaded any new programs since then I think you will lose them and have to reinstall.

Hope that helps.

Its not on my computer either (I looked) but then it never has been, and I have never heard of it or used it and have no idea what it is.

It sounds kinda like some adware tracking stuff that was going around a couple years ago, have you done a virus-scan and clean lately, maybe about three weeks ago exactly?

Sorry to sound like that but Xp, XP Pro, Millenium, Wndows 98. I have had a few windows programs and never used that, or needed to look for it, or remember seeing it. Are you sure it was a Windows program? What does it do?

But you can transfer anything important on to disc, do system restore, then reload it. You can go here and download the software or ask questions (although I've never had luck with getting answers from any software company). As to why it disappeared...I have no freaking idea. I've never heard of that before. Make sure you check your computer for viruses.

You can also repair any protected system files if you have an XP install disc (to be safe, make sure its a Service Pack 2 disc).

Pop the disc in, and close anything windows that try to autorun. Go to START, then click RUN, and type in CMD and press ENTER. Then type SFC /SCANNOW and press ENTER.

Two notes of caution:

  1. The SFC scanner will show a progress bar, but it will not give you a "Finished" popup. It will simply stop.
  2. Only try this if the System Restore mentioned in the posts above does not work. If your system is really messed up, it could hose your OS installation altogether. So make sure you have backups of all your porn first.

Yes, I forgot to mention...protect the porn at all costs. A man's got to have priorities. :D

If you need to run Installshield and don't want to reinstall XP:
Try to create a new user account (with all privileges). You may be able to run Installshield from that.
(Got that from this link)
