I had one that kept telling me a virus had been detected and I needed to go to some Web site and buy their product to remove it. I tried emailing the fuckers to complain, but it was bogus. I guess it was just a virus and I couldn't get rid of it. After a couple of hours, I gave up and did a System Restore. Those ass-wipes have gotten really good at making official looking error messages and web sites (I got it because of a message saying my copy of Flash was out of date and needed to be upgraded).

You had a infection of a program called "Trojan Fake Alert". That fucker keeps popping up telling you your computer is infected (well, it is, of course - by them!) and if you buy their software, it works just like AdAware, except it doesn't actually clean anything. The fucker just keeps opening you up for more spyware and hackers

Yes. AdAware, Spybot, virus protection programs, and you still get shit on the hard drive.

I use five of them. And I still end up with one or two none of them recognize

The best anti-spyware programs detect about 90% of all known spyware. But are only able to remove about 50% of them.

Best bet is to have several different progr4ams and run a scan with all of them once a month or so. And even then you might still be fucked.

A wonderful world, innit?

Yep. Apparently I wasn't vigilant with the desktop as I should have been, kids used it and suddenly it wouldn't boot up, just keep cycling. Turned out to have about 900 viruses on it according to my friend who cleaned it. Sucks.

Super Antispyware rocks da HOUSE!!!! :nana:

Oh, I DID system restore. THREE TIMES. In Safe Mode, too. Did Nothing. Nada.

Finally, Super Antispyware found and killed it. :p

That's the problem with SR. You have to know when you were infected. Glad you knocked it out.

Happy for you. :D Don't forget to back up regularly. Good advice that most people don't follow, including me.

My best friend's cousin's brother saw him at Seven Flavors the other night and said he looked really sick. :(

Well, a group of us are collecting money to buy Ferris Bueller a new kidney.

Save Ferris?

I shudder to think what kind've crap is on my PC. I was planning on installing a new hard drive, and so I wasn't worried about viruses and spyware anymore, so I stopped running my cleanup programs. The hard drive hasn't been installed after owning it for a few months, and I still haven't run the cleanup programs...

No, let him die. I want Mia Sara all to myself (well, Kiten can share). *drool*

Isn't that your best friend's cousin too?
