I got a new Dell PC last summer, the virus software needs to be updated. So i tried downloading the update, but when i do, a box comes up that says "OWNER PASSWORD" to continue, I am the owner and there was never a separate "OWNER PASSWORD".

If anyone has any ideas, Please feel free to let me know.
(I don't want to call Geek squad or Dell for something that may be easy to fix).

Thanks,
Cipher.

Since you didn't give much info I'll just take a guess and say you bought it at Best Buy and the virus program was installed by them as an "upgrade".
Bad news is they probably entered a password during setup...now you have to hope they remember it.
Calling Dell won't help...it's software and not their problem.

Two choices....call the geeks and hope for the best or uninstall it and get something else.

I would think whoever did the work they would use a default password for new installs giving the user the option to change it later...without telling you of course lol

In which case, try:

username: admin
password: admin

You can also try
Username: Administrator
Password: password
or
Username: Admin
Password: password

If those two dont work try
Username: Administrator
Password: P@ssword

Those are all of the combination I could think of trying first. If none of those work. Your best bet is to try to call Geek Squad

You could just get AVG Free.

I was going to suggest avast but AVG works great too. Take Erika's advice and ditch your anti-virus software. Install AVG or Avast, and get malware bytes and spybot search and destroy to protect your PC.

cipher, sounds like malware of some kind. have you allowed anyone else to access your computer?

dave's thing: i've been using MAB in conjunction with AVG to good effect for several months now when AVG was the first software. it does require adjusting a few settings, though.
