After I did a testrun off Windows XP on a 2nd partition on my computer, and it worked perfect, I now have a problem.

I upgraded the windows 2000 installation I have now, and it worked fine, except one problem, I can't connect to the internet (I have a netcard connected to a cable modem) and could of course connect on the test installation I had made.

I did some digging, and get an error message when I try to ping the netcard's IP, it says something like this:

Could not PING: Error code 65

Does anybody have any clue to what this is?

I did try to uninstall my netcard, and reinstall it, but still doesn't have any luck with it.

Ice Princess thank you so much for that hint!!! I did have zonealarm installed on my computer, but it wasn't running, at least I hadn't started it. But once I deleted it, deleted my netcard, rebooted and installed my netcard again, I got on-line at once!

Wow! I'm so glad that worked! I was afraid it was something much more complicated than just a firewall conflict. I always end up with those bizarre problems that no one can explain and have to resort to fdisk and other extreme measures ... (shudder).

Glad you're up and running again.

Oh I know everything about having to reinstall all over, that I have done so many times myself, before I changed to first Windows 2000, and now XP.

I do work as a computer supporter myself, but I still haven't learned everything, and I probably won't either, but now I have yet another piece of information stored.

So if you ever need any help, feel free to get in touch with me, and I'll see if I can help you.

Here's hoping nothing goes wrong with my machine again for a long, long time, but if/when it does, it's so nice to know someone to contact for advice when I've run out of ideas.

Thanks for the offer and good luck with the XP (hope it doesn't turn out to be one of Microsoft's quirkier products ...).
