i load a recovery disk in my other computer.it just won`t boot up.got any ideas.is it tore up or what.

Go to the manufacturer's web site. You may be able to get help or even get the software there.

Or, as with my printer software, I found that I had a missed a click somewhere :)

Good Luck

need more information does the floopy drive try to access the "boot disk" ? what is the error message

i suggest just starting over completely with it... just make sure you have certain drivers downloaded first (ahem... modem).. you can save those to a disk and transport them to the computer you want them on.. it makes for a lot less headaches that way

drive c error has replied on there
It sounds like you may have either a hard drive or a hard drive controller problem. In essence - it may be a hardware problem.

If you have more than one hard drive, can you access the other hard drive when you boot from the recovery disk? If not then it may be the controller as the likelihood of two drives going bad at the same time is very low.

Exact verbage of all error messages helps - as does a detailed description of what you are doing to get the messages.

sounds like the hard disk is bust ... you got an error while formatting the hard disk ?

it depends ...

(1) your computer will try to boot off the hard disk first

(2) if it cant it will try to boot off floopy drive

(3) if it cant do that it will try to boot off cdrom

what you need to find out is why its not booting off the hard disk what happens EXACTLY when you turn it on with no floopy inside and how EXACTLY did this trouble with your computer start

boot from atapi cd-rom failure
SOunds like a controller failure. Here is something to try:

1) Turn the computer off. Unplug it from power (for your safety).

2) Take the cover off the computer. Notice where the flat cables come off the various drives, especially the CD ROM drive and the hard drives. Keeping one hand grounded on the metal case of the computer (to keep from zapping the electronics), wiggle the connector ends of the flat cables for each of the drives.

3) Now make sure you push those connectors hard onto the drives and hard onto the motherboard or daughter card they ard connected to. If connected to a daughter board don't push too hard without supporting it.

Make sure all of the cables to the various drives look like they are inserted correctly, both data (flat) and power cables (smaller cables with four separate wires - usually two black in the center, red and yellow on the outside).

4) If the cables are connected to a daughter board (vertical board in a slot) then you might want to try reseating the board into its slot. You can do this by removing the Phillips screw holding its bracket down to the case, then wiggling the board fore and aft to loosen it. Once loose you don't need to remove it, just push it back down into the slot firmly.

You can also bypass step #4 and just push down firmly on the daughterboard to make sure it is seated.

boot from atapi cd-rom failure
Is this with a bootable CD-ROM disk in the CD-ROM drive?

Before you try my procedure for diagnosing the apparent controller failure, remove all CD-ROM discs and all floppy discs from all drives, and then try booting - the ndescribe what happens. I know that seems obvious, but I have seen this happen before (trying to boot from a non-system disc you didn't know was in a drive).

setup canot create files on your startup drive and canot set up windows 98.
if you have a hpfs or ntfs, you must create an ms-dos boot partion.if you have lantastic server or superstor compression.disable it before running setup.
see setup txt.on setup disk 1 or the windows 98 compact disk

It definitely sounds like you have some kind of hard drive problem. It could be soft (logical errors in a file or formatting) or hard (controller, the drive), and it may or may not be recoverable. If you have anything on the drive that you want to keep, and you can't access it after booting from a CD ROM or floppy, then you will probably have to take it to someone who knows what they are doing for recovery.

If you can access the hard drive after booting from a CD-ROM or floppy, and you can get off what you need (if it isn't gigabytes and GB of info that won't fit onto floppy) then get that info off and then try a reformat of the hard drive and reinstall of the operating system as a last resort.

Personally, if I were you (you sound like you are unsure of how to do this stuff), I think I would take it into someone or have a guru come over to fix it.
