Computer help?

My sound isn't working, I went and checked the drivers, the connections, the sound settings-someone pleas tell me I don't have to buy a new sound card? Pretty please?

Go into controls, to system, click on device manager, look for any exclimation points in a triangle. If you have one in I/O for the sound card you may have to reinstall the driver.

Here's a simple idea that many people really do overlook, look at your surge protector or whatever you use, and see if the speakers are plugged in. It's happened to me once or twice before and I couldn't figure it out until I looked at it.

My speakers are not independantly powered.

My computer is telling me that everything is working properly. But no sound is coming out of my speakers, and I plugged those into my discman-they work there, so I know the speakers themselves are fine. What the hell?

You can plug in your speakers to your disc-man? How is that possible? Do you have another computer? If so, unhook your speakers and put them on the other computer to be sure it's the card.

My speakers plug into a little y shaped device which then plugs into my computer. The y shaped device also has a spot fora subwoofer, which I don't own. Anyway, said device can also plug into my discman-the plug point and plug are compatable. So I know it's not the speakers. I plugged my headphones into my computer and came up with static. I really don't want to have to replace my sound card, I don't even know where to start...
The card may be fryed, but check with Weired Harold.

Walmart has reasonable priced sound cards though.

P.S. Hi Rom!

I'm a bit of novice with computers too, however if you have accidently clicked on 'digital output' in the volume controls, this will stop your sound from working.

Another possiblility to check is your mixer settings -- you (or something) may have set the volume control for your normal sounds to zero or muted certain inputs.

Do audio CD's play in your CD drive? The direct audio connection from CD Drive to the Sound card is the path least affected by software problems. If you've shorted or burned out the output stage of the sound card, the computer wouldn't necessarily be able to tell if anything is wrong.

Next question: Do you have in integrated sound card (built-in to the motherboard) or an actual sound card that can be replaced. If it's integrated, you may be out of luck because the motherboard often won't recognise a sound card if the internal has failed.

HELP

My browser won't show any graphics. Is this a run-out-of-RAM problem? It just stalls out and says "x items remaining-downloading picture" and the little progress bar doesn't move.

Operating System and your system specifications would be helpful...
