My speakers haven't been working since I changed monitors to one that has the speakers on the exterior of the monitor (detachable).

I went and bought a new sound card and replaced the old one, incorrectly assuming that was the problem.

Today I was on a thread that someone had linked to some music, and from nowhere my speakers started to play music. So I put my CD in and nothing...no sound.

Any clue as to why my speakers would work on one thing, but not the other...?

Delete all the sound hardware and restart the PC. Let the computer figure it out for itself. It's much smarter than you.

Check the device properties for your CD-ROM drive. Make sure "digital CD audio" is enabled for your CD/DVD players.

what Chilled Vodka and ma guy say sound like reasonable starting points.

Do you have the "mixer" volume turned up appropriately? (i.e. Click on the "sound" properties and you can check levels for various functions such as Mic, Line In, CD Audio, etc....)

OMG, it's Ambro.

Hey hows the little one? And the Mrs. Ambro? :D (sorry for hijacking the thread........:) )

See if what Hanns' says is right first...make sure the cable from your sound card to CD-ROM is connected.

Then, make sure you have the speakers connected into the right slots on your sound card. If you have an SB Live!, you may will have connecters for front and back speakers usually.

Here's something unmentioned so far...make sure your power adaptor is the right one to power your speakers.

Ha! I knew someone was going to say it.

Kinda like, why isn't my printer printing? I have the monitor facing the printer, the computer can see the printer!!!! LOL. :p

It happens :D

Trying to use a 9v adaptor on 12v speakers will result in....no sound. ;)

It does happen, probably more often than what people like to tell or believe.

It sounds as if we have all bases covered.

Good luck Gunner and let us know what it was..........:D
