Completely redoing my stories...

I have 3 stories out, all in one series of X-Men Evolution stuff...

Now, I haven't written anything in a while because I've lost interest with my stories, and the only area I can go with them seems like to much work for something that isn't that great.

But all of a sudden the other day I had a sudden interest in my stories again, but instead of writing new ones, I was thinking of going back and redoing them. Expand on certain areas, even move parts from chapter 2 to chapter 1 etc etc. I feel I could possibly do everything a whole lot better, especially the sex scenes... since writing these stories I've had a lot more personal expeirence in that area and could probably make them more realistic and even a bit more romantic...

Would this interest anyone, or has anyone ever done this before?

I think all of us look at our older works occasionally and think, I could have done so much better. A few of us actually go back and rewrite. I tend to believe in leaving them as is, I can go back and see where I have grown as an author, where I have improved and occasionally, where my skill has slipped.

Rewriting, is to me, far more difficult than producing an entierly new work. Which ever routh you go, re writing or new, best of luck :)

I've known someone who did this. He wasn't happy with his old stories so he rewrote them and posted them as an edit. He did this for himself, and not necessarily for the readers, becuase he couldn't deal with having put out what he considered sub-standard work.

It paid off- the whole series really rocks now!

If that's what you want to do, go for it! Do it for yourself, as an expression of your best ability.

I'm about a quarter of the way through a rewrite of my major opus, the Silverbridge Chronicles.

However, revisiting them gives me ideas for new stories so the rewrite slows to a crawl while the new ones are written. I go back, find another idea, and the rewrite stops again.

Give me ten years and another 100 stories and I might finish.

Or I might not.

I tend to do little rewrites as feeback comes in, and I go back and make adjustments even if I'm not going to repost the story anywhere. You sort of have to keep in mind your most important reader, which is yourself. If you don't like the way a story came out or you think you can make it better, by all means start those fingers a-typing.

I've only done a substantial re-write once, and it was on a story that was written for a specific person. She requested a change, and since it was her story I made the change. Her response to the change was gratifying.

I'd like to grow more as a writer, and if rewrites help that, I'll be all for it.

Lo Colly darling:rose:

I'm with Colly, I've never re-written anything, and I leave all the stuff I'm now convinced is embarrassing crap in place to remind me to buck up and not to do it again:)

Take it up where you left off and write chapter's two, three, and what have you Phoenix, but don't bugger about with the original unless you're convinced it will be worth it.
