When I try to write stories, I always seem to come back to the same sort of theme.
I can’t seem to write about a different theme and get writers block or lose my way. Is there anything I can do to perhaps not “lose my way?”
Or am I thinking about it too much and should just carry on with what I know best?

Nothing wrong with writing the same theme. Lord knows a number of published writers dress up the same themes and even character archetypes with just some mild changes.

Now I will say you might get better advice in the “How To” or one of the author focused forums as we just generate ideas here. But unless you’re getting burnt out on the theme, no reason you can’t keep exploring that theme.

What’s the theme you keep coming back to?

Your theme is simply what you are into as a fan of erotica. And there is nothing wrong with that. I'm a sucker for older gals. Have been since before I was a Lit approved age.
So most of my stories are of the older woman/young man genre.

The key here is to vary the setting and story. In the end my young man has his beloved MILF but the who, what, when, where, how and whys are all different from story to story.

Thank you, that makes sense. Same theme just dress it up differently 🙏🏻

Thank you, I was a little unsure where to ask to be fair 😬

I keep coming back to interracial and age gap Xx

I'll disagree with my colleagues, a little. If you feel an urge to vary your writing, don't let them discourage you.

If you write erotica, find something that excites you, that you haven't already covered. Say you were Rob Royale: maybe your favorite MILF story has elements of exhibitionism--your hero gets a charge by making out with his older lover in a park. Maybe do a story about that?

Or do the same theme but a very different story. Again, using Rob's favorite story type as an example: a younger man falls for an older woman. Then he's charged with murder. The 40-year-old woman reads a lot of Miss Marple stories and watches Murder, She Wrote. Can she solve the crime before her lover is sent to prison? Does she put on a disguise and go undercover as a stripper as part of her investigation? Or an escort?

Both of those can be varied up in quite a few ways! I remember before I torched my first account one of the two stories I published combined the two to be about an intergenerational friendship between a white woman and her older black neighbor that becomes physically intimate.

So yeah, if those are your bag just find ways to shake them up. Maybe mix in other genres or themes to try them out if you want to branch out

I had a look at your story list, you publish in many different categories, so you know how to vary your theme.
And it is always an advantage if there is a theme that we feel at home in. Makes writing easier and more productive.
If you really want to do something else then you could take a look at the various contests and write for one of them with characters of same age and race.

I've found taking reader suggested stories (within reason and mutual author interest) helped push me into new territory I may not have otherwise explored.

Are you actively looking for ideas?
