Common mistakes

I mean earlier for instance I wrote a sentence in a new story of mine, and WORD underlined it. So I read it back to myself expecting to find some sort of typo, but I couldn't see anything wrong with it. In fact the more I read it the more frustrated I was that WORD wouldn't accept it as a viable sentence. In the end I had to change the wording slightly, before it would accept the line.

Carl, Carl--don't take Grammar Check's word on much of anything. It doesn't know what the hell it's talking about 98% of the time. If I had a dollar for every time it accused me of sentence fragments, when I know damn well it wasn't a sentence fragment, I'd be rich.

I have the 'sounds like' problem when I'm not thining about what I'm typing, and my fingers type something else.

hair, hier, hare, hire
sheer, shear
fair, fare

I spell and grammar check once when I've finished.

Spelling errors are usually typos such as taht.

Grammar: fragments usually intended in dialogue. Passive sentences. I don't usually accept the offered alternatives but think about rephrasing.

The things that neither pick up: Too much use of 'but', 'realise' and sentences alternating between too long and too short when I didn't intend to slow down of speed up the pace, or I'm just too lazy to use the full-stop (period in US). If I didn't make a conscious effort many of my sentences would be full of conjunctions and go on and on and on...

Most irritating: doing a spell or grammar check and finding that the default is US English.

You can put alternative spellings in your dictionary. You can't tell Grammar Check much of anything, unfortunately.
