Comments

I did wonder what the etiquette around this was. It's all well and good to add your own comment to your story to thank people or reply, but by then most people have moved on and unless perhaps the reader said something really controversial or they have nothing better to do, I somehow doubt they revisit the story to see the reaction of the author.

What does everyone else do? PM someone who gave them a great piece of feedback? Send them a thank you card? Some of the comments I've gotten were actually incredibly helpful and while I'd like to respond, I don't know them from Larry and don't want to give anyone the wrong impression...

Ah! All great celebrities treat their fans like crap. And all LIT writers are great celebrities. They whine for the comments but are too full of themselves to respond when they get it. Rude seems to be the common impression.

I respond to anyone who sends a return e-mails address and anyone with a user id. In my particular ctagory many post anonymously so nothing I can do there.

I have even gone one better and as I am down to the final chapters of my series have begun 'dedicating' the chapters to those who have been commenting from the beginning.

Lemme try this again:

And you're giving an awful lot of credit to someone who believes 26 is a step from the grave and 6 1/2" cocks are only found in the wild imaginings of fantasy, aren't you? ;)

It looks like he's working his way through the alphabet, so it will be a while before he gets to any of your LW stories with comments turned on.

Ah...then I await his dysfunctional attitude without concern.

JAMESBJOHNSON - When it comes to compliments, you sure do giveth and then taketh away, don't you? :)

Oooh, that's a great idea!

My first story was only posted just this past week, but I received very thoughtful, useful, and flattering feedback from one reader. After seeing my story here, she went to my site, downloaded the novel, read the whole thing that night, and emailed me the next day.

I'm working on revising the second novel, and, as I go, I'm rewriting some of the scenes to include things she has requested.

I used to respond to signed-in commenters with an e-mail back to them. Now, I comment back within my comments. If there's something that really needs to be seen, I will still shoot an email over to them and hope they read it. Private commenters tend to leave their e-mail addresses anyway, so that solves that problem. They get a personal note back.

With "Lavender and Love", I'm getting more reads on it because of placing and I hope maybe people that would not have gone back to the story (that left comments) will do so and be able to read my comment. I number the Anons to keep track. This was the first time I didn't send private comments back to the commenters who were signed-in. I'm not sure how I will do so next time. Just trying to see what works best.

I do respond back to every comment though, even the negatives.

Those comments are from the comment portal -- mostly Loving Wives. There are usually 1 or 2 -- sometimes almost the full list if he's ( just to save typing he/she every damn time ) found a chapter story that contains "old hides", in which case, he'll mark every chapter 1 back to back.

I have little doubt that he's been marked by the sweeps as a problem voter, and may as well save his clicks, though.

Now that I look, he has commented on one of my LW stories, and actually had something to say... Defending the cheating woman and attacking the husband. I've noticed that as his other theme. He appears to be on an opposition campaign to the "torch the bitch" camp.

Yah, DH, he sounds like a fifteen-year-old most of the time :p

Oh, and the other thing he rails on is cocks over 6 inches, which he calls "impossible". So, we can reasonably assume he's sporting a cocktail weenie :D

Wow, I somehow missed this. Anything over 6.5 is impossible eh?

The flip-side is, authors dont respond to comments.

This isn't always true. I don't respond to every comment (not that I have many of them here) but I will respond sometimes. Particularly if it seems the commenter is looking for a response. I don't get many comments so I appreciate the comments I do get.

I avoid ever mentioning precise measurements in regards to cock size, partly to avoid this sort of thing. But then I get people complaining that I should mention the exact size of the cocks. You can't please everyone as the saying goes.
