Comments, or critique

Are the comments posted about our work critique, comments or just ignored. I recently began to see a trend in the comments posted about my work here. Until recently I was vain and anal about what I published here, I deleted comments that I considered super-negitive. Since then I have noted there are NO COMMENTS WHATSOEVER. Sincerly how does it work?

I know it is easier for some readers to add comments if they aren't the FIRST to add comments. Maybe that has had an effect on yours?

I leave anything up that doesn't attack another author through my comment board, doesn't contain ignorant racism, and the like. Most of the time, those ridiculous harsh comments are so childish that they're almost an advertisement for your story, rather than against. People see the chimpanzees-at-the-keyboard rant in the comments about how your story 0mG sux0rz!!!11 and have to see what got the village idiot crowd so riled up.

Deleting comments can certainly discourage people from commenting, and seeing other comments will sometimes help bring more, too.

It all comes down to whether you can deal with having a harsh/stupid comment attached to your story. PCs, votes, and any sort of feedback is difficult to come by. Of the people who read your story, very few will actually take the moment to do any of them, so you have to learn to appreciate even the offal that floats in to some extent.

I have found idiot comments cause others to respond with "Don't listen to the idiot" comments. I've never deleted any.

IMHO, public comments aren't well-suited to critiques. For one thing, giving constructive public feedback that doesn't come across as sounding negative is very difficult. Sack may be the best at it among AH regulars.

As for deleting comments, I've done that twice. Both comments appeared on my holiday contest entry. The story revolved around a bar fight between two young white men, one of whom was a KKK wannabe and started a church fire that accidentally killed the other man's fiancee' and a black guy who had been a life-long friend of both.

Two single-digit IQ idiot types went on rants about reverse discrimination and playing the race card. They got the ax.

Uh huh I think the stories I write, appeal to a certain subculture and lifestyle. I have made a determined effort to send feedback and add comments as a New Years resolution, maybe its only me, but perhaps its the quality of my submissions...dunno Just me feeling hurt and rejected I guess

Edit Signature.

Click on - Insert Hyperlink - little infinity symbol by the world above the box where you will be typing.

When it asks you Insert Text to be displayed, add - Happy's Stories - or whatever and hit enter.

Then paste this - http://english.literotica.com/stories/memberpage.php?uid=599424&page=submissionson the next screen.

Play around with it for awhile, you can add color, etc. Preview it, check the link, then don't forget to save it.

Couldn't agree more. I don't delete any comments, I leave 'em all. Its an open forum, they are entitled to their opinion. Even the idiots.

I've only had to delete one comment, if it is overtly disrespectful then i get rid of it. I wasn't going to at first coz i felt that it should be an open forum as someone above said, but a friend suggested it go because it wasn't appropriate- effectively slamming the fact that it was a) a FF story and b) one half of my couple was not caucasian...

I say coincidence.

I think I've so far deleted a total of one comment. Can't even remember what it was - probably along the lines of "Your story sucks and you're an idiot!"

I applaud the principle of not deleting comments. But when it's negative, stupid and the only comment? That may be quaint if you have a name and scores of faithful readers - but I don't think it works for a relative unknown like me...

I have a strict policy of allowing people to be a dumbasses if they so choose.

If they want to put their words of stupidity up for others to read and marvel that "Yes, their are people that fucking stupid in the world" then who am I to stand in the way of making someone's day a little better.

All I was doing was copying and pasting the link from your story page. I don't know why it is being so stubborn, unless it has something to do with posting completed links on the occasional thread? Sometimes the system allows, sometimes not.

OK. I'm going to use many links - LOL - let's see if we can make this work.

Go to your story page. If you haven't done that, here's the link to Story Index - Search for Authors.

Put your name under author - search.

Results -

Click your name - here's your Bio page -

I always delete racist or homophobic comments, even when they are complimentary. I haven't gotten very many of those. I delete duplicates also. I leave the stupid ones there because I find them amusing, especially when half the words are misspelled.
