Comments Heads Up

Are there really that many mean people here? I've seen a few arguments in threads but nothing really bad. Maybe I'm being a naive newbie.

I have anon comments on because I'll be wanting as much input as I can get once I start posting stories. Good or bad, I want input.

Definitely accept anon comments. Lots of people comment anonymously for their own reasons. It's none of my business why they do. You'll miss some good ones if you turn it off.

My most recent LW story got 32 comments so far (I don't get a lot). Here's how they broke down:

Anonymous: 15 comments
Lit authors: 7 comments

All of the anon comments were valid opinions, even if they had little to say. Some admitted they 1-bombed it. Whatever. It's one of the 5 choices readers have.

One anon comment was 2200 words long! The story was only 2900 words.

All three groups had at least one comment that was useful enough to me that I would consider it on a rewrite, and for similar stories in the future.

Overall, I consistently get more useful comments in LW, and certainly more interesting and entertaining ones. Take whatever you can get.

Scoring is a different matter. It is completely irrelevant for any practical purpose.

"Wolves don't lose sleep over the opinions of sheep"

I recall some asshole called JBJ toting this line when another poster started a thread on this same topic not very long ago.

Well....wouldn't she be surprised to know that advice came from a hypocritical SOB? :D

I turned off the anonymous posts to my stories.

When I allowed readers to post anonymously, all I received were bashing comments from the whackos too afraid to identify themselves for fear that their stories would be bashed too.

Now, even though I receive less comments, the comments that I receive are more useful.

Moreover, speaking of comments. Too many readers are afraid to leave comments and/or to even vote. They fear that Big Brother, the Cloud, or the NSA will somehow reach through their computer screen and identify them. They're afraid that their significant others will discover they they read porn and aren't the Bible thumper that they thought they were when they married them.

"Honey? What's this e-mail from Literotica? Do you read that stuff? Someone named JB wrote that you're hot."
Hi there, I notice you say you can turn off anon comments, I can't seem to find how to do this?! I am most likely too stupid to see, but if you could direct me that would be much appreciated, thanks!

What many are unaware of is this: What we call our CONSCIOUS mind handles 5-9 pieces of info at a time. The rest of our brain (UNCONSCIOUS) handles bazillions of pieces of info from our senses. So I let my unconscious deal with most things and guide my responses tho I rarely 'know' whats going on. It makes me a better lover, for one, and helps me fathom most other occurrences.

Post some of these so called comments from the authors here in the AH with who you think it is. I doubt you'll get any right but put up or shut up. No one here that writes any at all have time to fuck with you. Most had you on ignore as JBJ and quite a few probably have you on ignore now. Write what people expect on an erotic site or take what comes with what you do write.

You may want to think that through a bit.

Although the nasty comments tend to come from anon, a lot of great feedback does as well so you lose out on a lot of good to dodge a little bad. Plus the bad you can just delete.

I have to say I have gotten a few that distinctly sound like some posters from the boards. It does happen, I'm not saying its with any regularity, but contests stories I get at least one or two on each one that sounds like they are someone from the boards.

Nature of the game.

Edited to give an example as you asked of JBJ

Such Tripe

A blatant attempt to win the contest with smaltz, when unable to win with incest. Repeating 'naked' 7 times makes this nowhere closer to a 'nude day' story.

The wording and incest crack leave little doubt as to who this most likely is. Or....someone else from here imitating that person(possible as pathetic as that is) but that would also point to a forum poster.

Must have killed them when that story won the July monthly:D

This one....now this one has the feeling of someone literary, yup, has that ring to it.

Stereotypical

Wow this storyline hasn't been played out a thousand times on this site. Usual LC, wordy and unable to control your writing, it wanders too much. Too long for a stroke story but not enough plot for a novella. Better luck next time.

The "LC" in both good and bad comments really smacks of the boards.

It's fairly obvious you mean me. I've never read, voted on, or commented on one of your stories and I never will. I'll bet you can't say the same to me (since you have been derogatory about my stories and writing in the past--surely you wouldn't shovel such shit without actually reading them, would you? You wouldn't be that much of an ass, would you?)

Guilty conscious? I'm sure most regulars here would think that was you, wonder why? Or as I said in the part of the post you chose to ignore it could have been someone trying to sound like you, its not hard to mimic anyone on here seeing we're all creative sorts.

But you're right, you caught me. I've left you a comment.

Throw a rock into a pack of dogs, and the one gets hit howls.

Bullshit. I have read a couple of your stories--back when you were finally embarrassed to post stories after years of calling everyone else's writing shit and that you did better--and were hounded to post stories. I found that you're a good writer, but that your stories aren't erotic, and I have stated so more than once. But I've never voted or commented directly on your stories, and never will. Probably won't read any more of them either.

Exactly. When people troll my stories, I simply delete their comments. I am fine with less than complimentary feedback, but haters get flushed as I could care less about them.

It's your story. It's your space. Rule it as you see fit.

Yep. No worry, no fuss.

Erotic and empathy, I got no clue what they mean. Write what you know, they say, and shit is what I know.

And, yet, once again, you don't make a connection between what you write and what writing this Web site represents in your complaints about the reception here of what you write.

Just suck it up, JBJ.

The Christmas truce is over, I see, normal service has been resumed.

I was beginning to worry, but the planets are now in their right and proper places and all is good in the world.

:)

Nope. Just one author pointing out the facts to another. JB bitches about people trolling his stuff and the "You sux" comments he gets. His stuff may be good or not but he posts it in the erotic section with no sex even implied. What does he expect?

I never bitch about 'you sux' those go to the feedback forum just like the others and bump your name/story to the top and even the negative makes people check the story out.

Bad attention is better than none. :D

You seem to have missed that I posted that I thought JBJ is a good writer--just that he's writing the wrong material to this Web site to expect accolades from a majority of the readers. I take it that common sense isn't acceptable here anymore(?)

I don't know any of his alts so the only stories I read are from noirtrash. I don't enjoy them all, but I also think he's a good writer. Better than that his style is interesting, quirky and continually evolving.

I thought he viewed the abuse and 1-bombs as a badge of courage or something. He writes in one of the most volatile of categories, basically tells readers and commenters if they don't like it to go fuck themselves. So yea, it's surprising that he seems to expect higher scores or more productive comments.

Good for him for writing what he wants to write. Nobody can accuse him of vote pandering :D, but I can't believe he's surprised at the reaction.

Naaah. I've caught AHers making abusive comments. A few are so dum they sign anonymous comments with their account handles, and one sent me a PM apology after her AH friends put her up to some abusive bull shit. Anyone who disputes it is naïve or part of the fun. There's no honor among AH writers, and noobs need to be wary.

Go to your Members Page (where you submit stories).

Under "Main" there is a label "Options".

That gives you this:

Accept Anonymous Feedback? Yes No

If you choose "NO" to the above option, unregistered users will not be able to comment on your submissions, and users will be forced to give an email address when contacting you via your profile and/or submissions. Accepting anonymous feedback greatly increases the amount of feedback you will get on submissions, because many readers choose not to register for the site.

Turn Off All Feedback? Yes No

If you turn OFF all feedback, no users will be allowed to contact you or post comments on any of your submissions.

If this is the case, post them so we can see also. I think as usual it's a bunch of bull. The only beef you have with the AH authors are the ones who call you on your bull. You're good at dishing shit out but you can't take it when it comes back around.

Quit your whining.
