Comments and feedback being weird

I’ve been receiving comments on my latest story in rather odd batches. A few came through shortly after publication, then there was a long lull, and suddenly I was deluged with a whole load at once, and this has happened a couple of times since. The same seems to be happening with direct feedback (four came through all at once today).

I can understand that there may be moderation involved and that comments are perhaps released in batches. However, today five new comments appeared in my author feed, but they haven’t shown up on the story itself. That hasn’t happened before.

Is anyone else experiencing this?

Also, as my latest piece was Part 2 of a story, I created a series for it. So far, that’s taken over two weeks and still hasn’t been approved — yet the story itself whizzed through in a couple of days.

Of course, if I had a choice over what gets delayed, I’d take this over a delay in story approval any day.

Series stuff can take quite a while, not predictable. My experience overall is that various numbers (votes, comments, favorites) always have lags - between your author's panel (usually the latest/most accurate) and other places in the Lit ecosystem. Most, but not all, comments are screened, so a batch all at one time isn't surprising.

For the next part, no idea, except that delays and quirks are quite common. Probably best to wait a couple days and see what shakes out.
That hasn’t happened before.

One of my comments was posted today. I followed it back to the story. At first that shows just one's own comment, but it has a link to All Comments and a number, in this case (3). When I clicked on that, there were only two comments, not mine. But that's Oldest First. Sort on Newest First, and mine's there. That was true when I checked this morning, and it's still true now, perhaps eight hours later. I know there are lags between parts, but that one was new to me.

So, not your comment weirdness, but more comment weirdness.

I got double-tapped on the feedback, too. I'm used to long delays and then deluges on comments, but the feedback coming in pairs or groups was new to me. I didn't know that was moderated. It literally says "Send instant feedback to [author]" so I assumed it was unmoderated.

Comments always seem to come in batches, except from the whitelisted commenters who don’t go through moderation.

The feedback moderation seems new; it might be a response to the rampant solicitation that has been discussed in the “Scam?” thread.

There is a strong indication that speeding up the publication of stories comes at the expense of review time for comments.

Literotica uses some form of a caching to reduce database calls and script processing. This means that pages are updated on some internal schedule, not every time you load it in your browser. Also, not all pages update on the same frequency, much less at the same time.

With comments, looking at them under the story and looking at them on the dedicated page can result in three different sets of comments, if you also switch between newest and oldest first.

The same thing can happen with an author's works page. In my experience, stories often appear on the alphabetical listing before the chronological listing.

Most pages seem to have a maximum age that triggers the refresh, although the new stories pages seemed to refresh on a fixed time schedule or are manually triggered once they have been updated for the new day.
