Commentary on the forum

After watching this forum for a while as an outside observer, I have to wonder... does everyone think it's gone downhill? The main posters of the past are all gone (for whatever reason). Heck, the moderator rarely even comes here anymore. Most of the threads are fluff threads. The most interesting threads come from trolls such as ChillVodka. Would it not be better to just close the forum and lock it off? Does anyone really think this forum should exist anymore? And the bad blood from the past... heh... even those people involved in the fighting are not even around anymore. What does that tell you? So what keeps you here? Why keep a forum that is just wasted space? Just some commentary from someone on the outside.

Hmmm , now that idea has merit!

:D

Anyway, as to unregistered....it is what it is. It hasn't gone downhill, it is just different than it was. The same can be said for every single forum at lit. So be it.

Those of us here, get something from it and enjoy the forum. If we don't, we have the power to post threads and change the atmosphere.

Oddly enough, it wasn't two weeks ago that I felt like we had gotten too serious about BDSM here.

Go figure!

NO!

What keeps me here is the outstanding information to be found here as well as the fun threads. Banter, fluff, whatever you want to call it is a great way to get to know people.

*shaking my head here* I am truley bewildered by your comment.

As for conflicts, well, this is a forum after all. Differences are always going to come up between different personalities. This forum is very respectfull of peoples feelings/points of view compared to other sites I visit. Gads! Go visit an online auction chat board. They will chew you up and spit you out in a heartbeat. And, over subjects way less consiquential (sp?) than those posted here.

OK, back to lurk/learn mode.
*and still shaking head in puzzlement*

Do no hide behind an unregistered name. Have the courage to say with you think with your real ID. Until then, I see no reason for anyone else to respond to this thread.

Speaking of waste.

Wasted watching, wasted commentary, wasted time making up guest names, wasted thoughts on wasting in a place you feel is wasted.

Don't you have better things to do?

LOL thinks that you used the word wasted more times in one sentence than i have ever seen it used.. and it is wasted as the guest probably will never log back in to check his own thread... giggles.. but i have some time so lets pick on "it" some more.

lol I simply wonder why it would be worth their time, effort and thought to post, create new names and commentary if they believe what they have written. Wouldn't that be the biggest waste of all??

Time for Outside Observer to look in the mirror and stop watching the screen ;)

I am not one to kick one when he is down ........ of course it may depend on why he is down thier.........smile

But ........ I find those that post here do very well and have yet to find this a downhill venture.

I hope you learn to see what is going on between the letters, behind the words and and past the periods.

All I can really say is ............. take your time and explore some more...........

Please do not bother, it's an unregistered troll with a fake name. A flame and run!

Very true

but - (being as it is supposed to be the season of good will) lets at least give him/her credit for a fairly well written (gramatically that is) flame - much better than many efforts made in the past. :D

I am still here ...
just not as often
but then again more often then I was
<grin>

Yes some have left us
some new ones have joined

Such is the cycle of life

Those of us that have been here for awhile
look out for one another
we have built a communiuty
even if it is virtual one

So what is your defintiion of community?

Bow, as I have returned

So I am back. I hope you are all well and pleased by this return. I waited a few days to reply in order to see what the lot of you could come up with in the way of a response to my original post. The result was lacking, to say the least. I have my reasons for appearing before you as an unregistered user. I do not wish to share those reasons with you all at this time. However, this should not make my original post any less sincere. Would knowing me make my words carry more weight? Is my logic less insightful? Do you need a resume of my life in order to respect my words?

I asked what I felt were tough, but necessary questions. I was met first with rejection from the Queen Nutcracker; nonsense from the Sultan of Sweat; a blow off from the newest Domme to grace your forum; a "it's ours and don't mess with it" attitude from the Lady of MissTakes; a plea for a real identity from the sweet Trinket, as if that would matter; a cute little ditty from the little sparrow among you; oh, my, the sweet innocent little bunny cursed; advise from the Virgin King who has been here a whole, what? 3 posts?! Yeah, I'll get right on that advice; more rejection and name calling from La Queena de la NutusCrankus; and finally, surprising praise for my writing abilities from the serene Pussy Willow, not that we are on a site dedicated to writing. Opps, can't forget the "cycle of life" speech from dear old Richard. Sorry to make light of your age dear Rich. I'll say this about "community": This may or may not be a community. I believe it is. But it's a community on the decline.

I was expecting more. I was, at the very least, expecting to hear from the more argumentative of your kind. The chest beating dominants that have to assert their superiority in order to live. I was expecting the snappy, witty replies from Lancecastor, or the logical "do this before that" type arguments of P. B. Walker. The sincere thoughtful writings of Zipman. The "hit the nail on the head" musings of Never. Where are your heros now?

Only one of you was able to put forth any effort and it was a lurker of all people. To her, I will respond. She is after all a kindred spirt. Yes, I agree with you, there was much to learn here. The information was passed along by some very knowledgeable people, sometimes in such quantities, I could not swallow it all at once. When was the last time you sat back and said to yourself, "Damn that is some good information?". It's been months for this lurker. I have to disagree about your fluff comment. Fluff is a great way for those people involved to get to know each other, and it's mostly flirting and what have you. It's more wasted space.

>This forum is very respectful of peoples feelings/points of view... <snip>

What forum have you been reading my dear friend? And for how long? Did you not happen to see the mass exodus of posters to a new forum over personal differences? And then the slow but steady departure of the posters that did stick it out during the "turf war"? Do you still see any of the posters that were intimately involved in the "dispute of late"? I don't. They've all departed to greener pastures as well. And what of the people that were not involved? The people who really knew what they were talking about? The people who had been involved in BDSM for years and years and could really impart their vast knowledge on the rest of us? The Shadowsdreams? The Wizards? And the countless other practicing lifestyle BDSMers I could name? Least of all, your forum moderator, herself a living practicioner of BDSM. Her latest contributions have been to inform the trolls, spammers, and flamers to refrain from interrupting her time in other forums. Yes, there are still a few left. I will give you that. But how long will they remain?

So where does that leave us unfortunate few? Please, if you can, I implore anyone to answer my original post. If you can. I think I can sum up very cleanly by borrowing some words from your jokester, ChilledVodka, "Show me your vagina, please." That, of course, is not meant literally... some of you may get it.

Outside Observer?

If the forum is such a farce, it can be changed. As I implied , post some threads that are interesting to you, let us know what it is you would like to discuss. We would all be happy to do so.

That is what I meant by my comment concerning who has the power to change the forum. Frankly, my comments in no way reflected "don't mess with it." I am all for change and have weathered many changes here.

Now, as for the intensity of the threads seemingly to die off. Well, I for one, have tired of posting the same stuff over and again. I have made a concious(sp?) decision to sit back and give room for other's to have a voice. How many different BDSM topics can there be, after all? It isn't that BDSM discussion has run the gammit, but rather, I feel it is best to get a fresh perspective. Also, given that many of the new posters are also new to the lifestyle it seems the thread topics that are generally posted are what is wanted at this point in time.

Do I miss those that left? Yes.
Am I happy to see zip or RS or shadowsdream pop in? You bet.

Why do I stay? Call it faith. There have been many times I wanted to leave, but it wasn't due to apathy or ennui...it was during those same "turf wars". I decided to stick it out. So, here I am.

Should the forum be doused? No. Obviously, there are some who enjoy the forum and get what they wish from it. If they don't, they have the power to change it. Those of us visiting daily don't have the ability to read minds and start posts that are more interesting to the lurkers. That would be a bit unrealistic.

This forum is open to change, whether you see that or not. Any concrete ideas would be welcome.

BTW...I am now and have previously posted with respect. I would ask the same from you and dont' feel that your sarcastic presentation of the posters was a great opening to discussion.

Ah yes, such thoughtful, sincere, original questions.

I'm quite sure you have everyone's best interest in mind, and stand an impartial Outside Observer best suited to make suggestions for all.

Oh, alas, the good ole days! Be still my beating heart. Suddenly overcome with nostalgia... bows to the wisdom and grace - the shining new face of reason, with the blindingly dazzling spin. Yes <whimpers> it's all such a waste <weeps> I see the dark!

It seems your questions were responded to, even if you didn't like the answers.

Still, you're much more entertaining then jamescarter, even if watching those wallowing in waste is your idea of a good time.

I don't think the owners would be interesting in closing it. It's one of the newer forums, if not the newest, and will pass online roleplaying in total posts next year. It blew by "How to" like it was standing still.

If you had a pair, we'd know why this was so interesting to you.

My recent contributions have been minimal largely due to the time constraints of real life. I've certainly never told people to stop interfering in my time in other forums. If you run even a minimal search, you'll see that I've had little time to participate in Lit in general. Such is life. When I've had time, I've posted more substantially--the sexism & public play threads come to mind as examples. In case accuracy and fullness of information matter to you, I thought I'd fill in a few of the blanks.

I've not posted threads explaining my whereabouts as it's off topic. Besides which, until now, nobody's asked.

So where does that leave us unfortunate few? Please, if you can, I implore anyone to answer my original post. If you can. Yes, there are a goodly number of trolls, uninformed newbies, and others whose contributions cannot offer the same quality and quantity of information as some posters of the past, or of the present. If you've been observing for long, though, you know this has always been the case. The new come here for information...and often they find it. If one is willing to look in the library, one can find a wealth of good information, regardless of what's being discussed at the moment.

And the discussion ebbs and flows, as do all long conversations. All is not lost--not even in terms of the particular voices who were once more active. Some of those departed will return. Shadowsdream is on a two month vacation, for example. I am at the end of a massively time consuming work cycle, for instance. To this end, Richard's cycles comments are on target.

However, in the short run, I wonder why you show such interest in the future of the forum--and such specifically negative interest. I know you aren't administration, as Laurel has never needed to hide behind anonymity; she always stands by her remarks. So, I can only assume you're an articulate but not particularly positively inclined observer. To this, I can only say that if it doesn't suit you, the door has always swung both ways.

I don't mean to dismiss you, but I cannot understand why you would feel anyone in this forum owes you an explanation of its existence, or a defense of the forum's current form and content. If you are displeased by it, I encourage you to participate constructively in the conversation, in an effort to steer the forum back toward ground you will find productive and useful. If it's beyond repair in your estimation, then you lose nothing by leaving permanently. Either way, you stand to gain nothing by your recent posts. And selflessness doesn't seem to be the order of the day--so color me mystified.

Best of luck to you,
Risia Skye
erstwhile Forum Participant and current Moderator

I too am stumped about your motives Observer. As RisiaSkye said, all long conversations have their ebbs and flows. There are times when conversations can become heated and quarrelsome or serious and thoughtful, there are times for fun and frivolity and even some flirting.

What puzzles me is this... I haven't been here that long but, I read the threads everyday and have been thru the library and I don't remember even one comment from you in all my reading. You've never (as far as I can tell) made a positive comment on any thread you found interesting, I've seen no advice or wisdom to those asking for guidance, never a welcome to new members or a word of kindness to someone in pain. If you're so interested in this forum, where has your voice been?

What brings you here? What is your involvement in the lifestyle and what can you add to the discussions here? Or are you just one of those people who isn't happy unless there is some fracas going on and you decided to start your own?

Whatever the case, as others have said before me, if you don't like the way the forum is going, either give some positive input or don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out.

Respectfully
beany

I still think that your only purpose is to flame and troll. So If you enjoy calling me names, have at it.

You are less than important in the natural scheme of things.

He/she is not belittling me. He/she can only belittle himself/herself. first of all, this is a porn site. I hardly think that taking his judgmental ravings seriously with affect this forum one way or another. If "it" s a he or she, it does not matter. If he or she is a sub mor Dom/me it does not matter.

Acceptance from an anonymous "person" who is trying to start some crap, is hardly worth the effort to read it.

All I get from the posts is that the person does not like me. I think I can live with that.

I think it's a much better place than it was before Never, and here's why:

1. Less Drama
2. Wider Variety of Poster "Types"
3. Greater Range of Topics
4. Less Heirarchical Atmosphere
5. Reduced Judgementalism

Some of your words are expressed as opinions as opposed to questions, so you are as always, welcome to them.

People post here regularly and often, so obviously closing the place is a silly notion.

You used to participate here now and then, Never, but mostly for the flame fights with Muff.

If you are interested in discussing BDSM, I'm sure you are welcome!

Good to see you; I've thought of you often.

Cheers

Lance
