In my, "recent activity," I noticed a note saying, "comment removed by administration." Does this happen often? I've seen some pretty vile comments on some of the stories, how bad does it have to be for this to happen? Is there a way to find out what the comment was?

Usually that means that the comment had a link to another site or was clear spam.

I'm with Dampy on this. I doubt if it had much to do with opinion expressed. Probably more to do with an attempt to spam.

I had two of them removed last week. I never even got to read them. I think someone's going around trying to wrangle some business for their malware-infested site . . . .

Laurel also deletes replies to toxic comments if the reply upsets the poster screaming obscenities at you.

I had one of those the day before yesterday and it was the first time I saw it. But it was explained. One of my regular readers slammed one of my stories for not giving warning of various things. In an answering comment I noted that the story had been tagged for all of those things and that if I tried to anticipate what any and all readers would want in an upfront warning, the warning would be longer than the story. The reader e-mailed an apology to me and said he'd asked the Web site to take his comment down. They did and then I erased my comment as well.

First time I've seen the Web site taking a comment down, though.
