Colts vs. Bears

Here are the playoff stats. The Colts have it over the Bears in every offensive category. The Bears might have a slight edge in defense. With Hester, the Bears probably have a good edge in special teams, however, the Colts field goal game may cancel that edge.

If the Bears are to win, they have to stop the Colts high-octane offense and ger an edge in turnovers. When the Bears have the ball they have to grind out the yards with short passes and rushes, while making no mistakes. If the Bears can keep the Colts offense off the field and chew up the clock, they can win.

If the Colts are to win, they need to use the fact that they can stretch the field and mix passes with a running game conducted against a pass defense. They need to stop the Bear's running game and get the ball back for their offense.

If it's a low scoring game, that favors the Bears. If it becomes a high scoring game, the Colts have a big advantage.

I said it before, I'll say it again, Colts by 4.5.

JMHO.

Stadium or Dome?

Right now I can't remember if the Colts play in a stadium or dome at home. If they play in a dome, I'm picking the Bears by a blowout. If they play in stadium then I predict a good close game.

At any rate, I've got my chili pot ready for the contest I'm in.

Oh, and either way I'm rooting for the Colts regardless of where I put my money. I'm a displaced :nana: Packer fan :nana: and proud of it.

The Colts play in the RCA Dome. The Dolphins stadium in Florida is an open air stadium. However, I can't find a weather forecast for the Super Bowl. Rain would seem to hurt the Colts more than the Bears.

Colts have all the right stuff right now:
Experience vs youth
Passing game
Running game
Defense has really stepped up
and let's not forget the million dollar leg

All Peyton has to do is get them in feild goal range.

Sorry, my fellow Midwesterners, but my blood runs Blue

The long term weather forecast for Super Bowl Sunday is cloudy with a 10% chance of rain. Good weather shold favor the Colts.

Well the line this morning is 7. It's easy to pick the Colts, but will they cover?

I think so. History of Super Bowl games, rookies are completely unprepared for this shit. Grossman already looks like a deer in the headlights, I expect Bad Rex to show up. Manning can handle the pressure and still play a good game. I don't think Rex can.

Admittedly, Brady and the Pats were heavy underdogs those many years ago to The Greatest Show on Turf but they had Belichick.

My prediction, this will be a blowout, like many Super Bowls are. Colts 41-10 or something.

I would so take that bet. You think Manning can handle the pressure (evidently based off his history of performing well in the big game  )? As I said before, Rex's QB rating is 10 points higher this post season.

Horus, I'm not sure what you're smoking, but can I have some? :D Let's see...The Colts have the running game? I checked the stats and the Bears averaged 10 yards a game more in the regular season and 20 yards a game in the playoffs. The Colts have the million dollar leg? Not sure if you noticed our kicker not missing anything in 16 of the 18 games this season. Their percentages are almost identical in the regular season and playoffs. Experience vs youth? How do you figure? Defense??? Dude, don't even go there. ;)

I'm sooo going to have to hide if we lose...

Oooh, this does go against my "No way Colts will cover the spread" stance. I mean, what's a Superbowl if not boring?

Although, actually looking at the scores, New England only won all three of its titles by a field goal apiece.

Maybe it will actually be an interesting game?

I'm still sticking with the Colts won't cover, and there's a good chance Bears will win. I have this hunch there will be an INT that will either give the Bears a TD, or incredible field position that leads to a TD.

And 5 hours to go. Most of the experts picking against the Bears. Can we pull it off and make them eat those words?

The outside factor is that the day is supposed to be windy and rainy. Windy and rainy figures to hurt the Colts more than the Bears. The Colts are a high-octane offensive team and wind and rain tend to hurt the offense.

The odds remain at Colt favored by 6.5 to 7 points. I predicted Colts by 4.5 and I am sticking to that.

It will be interesting to see how the rain affects things. It will most likely hurt the Colts, but could also lead to the DBs slipping, making a big play possible. If it becomes a running game, the Colts are dead. If it's a normal game, I still believe (hope) we'll win, but the defense is really going to have to play it's ass off.

Bears 38
Colts 20

One thing to remember: All 4 of the Colts' losses were on the road, 3 were on grass. NO dome team has ever won the Super Bowl on a grass field. And the weather is expected to be in the 60's, 20 mph winds, and rain off & on.

Yeah, looks real good for the Bears.

conciously unconcious.

Colts by seven.

Got a call from a friend about 20 minutes ago.

"Hey M. Hows the weather there?"

"Huh? It's cold enuff to freeze the balls on a brass monkey. Where are you?"

"Miami."

"What?"

"Me, my son and two guys from work jumped in the motor home an drove down thursday night."

"T, you drunk? You shittin me?"

"I'm workin on the first part, ain't shittin ya. We're here."

"You drove all the way down there to see the bears lose?"

"Yeah right. Hey listen, tell the guys I ain't comin to the party. Sorry, but... havin a blast down here."

"I'll tell em. Have fun T. Don't drink Tooo much beer."

"Is that possible. Ok see ya."

LMAO they don't even have tickets. Just went to be there.

I'm taking the Colts on a more or less "want them to win" basis. Bottom line: All the stats in the world won't really affect the game. My personal opinion: Which Peyton shows up at game time. I think that, with Addai and Vinatieri at Dungy's disposal, Peyton really can simply glide through this one without putting it all on his shoulders, especially with the defense playing well.

Chicago is in the same boat, but the difference is, Rex can't win alone, and I think Peyton can, if it comes down to it. Peyton can afford to blow the first half and come back in the second, from a notable deficit. The Bears have to run the game almost like the Pats do. No matter what, it can't get too far out of reach, they can't let the Colts get more than ten points ahead in the first half. Come second half, if they're that far behind, it could lead to disaster.

I'm not implying that the Bears can't win, merely that there's thinner ice for them than for the Colts. They defense can certainly keep then in action, and if they manage to wear down the Colts defensive line, the second half could be all Bears. Grossman can work things through if the run is in tact, and probably quite well. More over, if the wrong Peyton shows up for the Colts, all the D-backs have to do is wait until he throws them the ball, and catch it.

Again, which Peyton shows up. Personally, I think he's due.

Well said. I'm surprised so much emphasis was placed on which Rex shows up, when it's Peyton with the history of less than stellar performances in the playoffs. This year he's running a sterling 66.8 rating in the playoffs (which would have earned him 4th from last in the NFL if it was during the season). Not that he won't come out and be awesome (he is my favorite quarterback in the NFL right now), just that the potential is there for him to struggle. On the flip side, the Colts defense is the worst ever against the run to make the Super Bowl. I think the chances of both Bears running backs having bad games is pretty slim. In the end, the pass is more dangerous than the run, so it will probably rest in Peyton's hands. If he's really good, we'll have to be almost perfect to stay with them. *biting nails*

I love the start, but I'm worried about Benson. He blew out his knee already. He is the Bears future if he can stay healthy. Now we just need to sustain a drive (don't you love how fans always say "we" :D ).

LMAO...yeah but 'we' works when your all stoked!!!!

Benson is a die hard, he will manage!

'fuck am i the cold hearted bastard'

And I think we're dead. Peyton is on his game and we're having some shitty play calling (a long pass on 2nd and 1 from the 30???). Barring a miracle, congrats to the Colts. Their D played well and Manning deserves MVP hands down.
