Color coding?????

And yes this could well tangent off into some misconstrued philosophical reach for PC'ism that may well be warranted....

(you say what?)

None the less I will ask - here we go....

Color coding????? What if?????

What if - along with the titles, "virgin, experienced, guru, etc.," - they were color coded as well.

You may remember - I was not exactly a big fan of "titles" in the beginning and still am not - but only for me - I didn't want a title - but I didn't mind that many did.

And I'm not a big fan of labeling anyone - in any way. But - because I "simply can't keep up" with all the happenings here on the beloved Lit Board - the name changes, the newcomers and folks going away for a while and then coming back - well I thought....... I wondered.......

How could you "tell at a glance" if a post was from somebody relatively new - or an old timer?

How could you tell at a glance - that somebody had recently undergone a name change?

And I thought that the best and easiest way - was color coding.

Example: A Virgin's name could be "green." Until they got experienced enough to become "blue." Etc.

A name change could be indicated by orange for a set amount of time - let's say a month for the sake of saking - and then return to it's normal color.

Well have at it - shoot holes in this sucker - is it technically too complex to do? Is it "labeling to a new level."

I'd just like to glance at the board and know - hey(!) - there's a new person - welcome - or - hey(!) there's somebody who's been here a while and they've even just changed their name and I haven not gotten to know them yet - I'll just go over and say hi.

In other words it's work - to see the individual tree - for the forest here - and I don't have time to go up to each tree and say "hello tree." I'd think I might like somebody to spray paint a color on the trees so I could more quickly/easier - discern what and who they may be.

And - can we add the title Uber Guru?

*Pacing*, "time is money, time is money...."

hehe, just look at the number of posts, which is always at the bottom.

The name would appear in color in the "thread starter," and "last post" boxes?
What if the last poster was a newbie, even a troll, but before that, someone else wrote something really worthwhile?

Mainly in the threadstarter box.....

And in the lastpost box too.

And nothing's perfect - I/you still would not be able to check them all (well maybe you can but I sure can't) - this would simply allow me a quick image - hey - a newbie.

That's all - nothing is perfect except checking the board all the time and keeping up with all the changes.

You want to label more innocent people and destroy their self-esteem with a label??????

Why don't you just call them skunks, snails, slugs, and the preferred group lions???

:p

Now when do I remember someone telling me not to play Devil's Advocate? Why do I never listen?

I could call some stick in the muds.....

And like I said, don't tell me about "being anti-labeling" I wrote the fucking book - read my old threads.

In fact - I notice that you've done something I tried to do way back when - I simply wanted "Titleless" for my title.

How'd you get Laurel to do that?

Sparky, I was being facetious!

And Laurel doesn't have to change your title anymore. You can do it all on your own. It's in the control panel under the Edit Profile Tab.

I think Tabby is Titleless already. Mine is there because I haven't found "the one" yet.

Sorry, I don't know big words like....

"facetious," - well - actually I know them - but don't use them.

I'm too busy - putting my tongue in my cheek.

And that's very hard you know.
\
And thanks for showing me that I can change my title - I will change it - but to what?

Well it's not creative or original..... but Class Clown seems to fit.

I'm a total fence sitter when it comes to labeling. There are some benefits in some situations.

Your color coding sounds like a programming headache to me, but what do I know. Of course, it would mean another set of never-ending How To threads about what the colors mean.
