Hi all

Im a long time lurker (almost a year and a half now) and I think of questions/thread ideas all the time, but am just usually too lazy to register. Well, I got bored, and so I finally registered, and here I am now....

So to the actual question, just wondering what colognes the womenfolk like these days? I did a search, and came up with this colognes search but it was mainly about perfumes.

Thanks
Ghede

I don't have a favorite. All I can say - and say very strongly - is that whatever you pick - please please please use it sparingly! Some of us have very sensative noses are are allergic to that stuff. Plus - no woman wants her perfume over powered by her man's fumes!

Hhhmmm...

I use Drakkar Noir and the ladies seem to like it...

At least, they're always telling me how good I smell... ;)

Two words. Polo Sport.

I melt when some guy wearing it walks by me. There are one or two others but that is my favorite by far. Wish my guy would wear it for me. :p I'd eat him up like a starving beast.

I consider myself somewhat of an expert in this field after spending 5 years of my life working on and off as a "fragrance model" for a perfume company ;)

Basically, you need to find a cologne that YOU like and that smells good on you. Not everyone can where every cologne. That means you'll probably want to smell alot of colognes and try the ones that you like before you buy them (like, try them on, walk around the mall for an hour or so, then go back). Since they're pretty expensive, you'll WANT to do this before you plunk down $50 for a bottle.

Basically, you want a light cologne in warm weather such as "sport" colognes or any cologne with the word "aqua" or "water" in the name. That's because most of these colognes are light and citrusy or smell like soap...anything else would be way too overpowering in the heat. Aqua di Gio by Armani is one of my faves.

In colder weather, you can get away with heavier colognes like Drakkar Noir (which i'm not a big fan of...smells too generic to me). Eternity by Calvin Klein is my all time favorite, but i also like Micheal by Micheal Kors, and Wings by Georgio.

I would go with cologne and not aftershave b/c aftershave is basically alot of alcohol. When i put on a fragrance, i spray ONE spritz on my tummy, then touch my wrists to my tummy. Your stomach is one of the warmer parts of your body, so the scent will be "diffused" naturally by the heat.

Okay, I made it sound way too complicate, but it's really not :)

Good luck!

I agree with Dollface...find something you like and makes you feel sexy, and Eternity by Calvin Klein gets me going everytime. It's just a clean, fresh scent that makes me do a double-take (and attack my hubby).

I like Drakkar. It's definitely a classic. But I've added a few items on my favorite colognes list. Here are some but not exclusive to:

I love Issey Miyake. When you smell it on a tester, it seems way too fruity, but once on a man, it's a nice clean subtle scent. I love that. I hate colognes that are overpowering. Scents should be personal, not a public thing.

I also love Alfred Sung's He. Mmmmmm. Now that scent is enough to drive me crazy! I wear the female version Shi which is probably why I love it. :D

Polo Blue is another one of those ones that I like. It's sporty and rugged. Just don't take a shower in it.

I don't mind a man who wears cologne. In some ways, it's nice to know that they care enough to wear it for the ladies. But, there's nothing like the scent of soap and shampoo. Now that there, is heaven for me. That combination is on the top of my list! :D

I LOVE cologne on a man. LOVE IT.

Some of my favorites...

Nautica Competition. Something about that makes me want to jump him on the spot.

Angel. Soft and sweet, and the kind of cologne that makes me think of lovemaking, slow and easy. :)

Drakkar. My ex-husband wore it, and even now, he gives me a bottle of it every now and then, simply because I like to use it on fabrics and such around the house. It is sexy as hell.

Cool Water. It reminds me of...cool water. It relaxes me.

Old Spice. I know, I know...a lot of people don't like it. But some men just wear it well, and one man I remember quite fondly wore it VERY well. :D

There are more, I'm sure...

*sigh*

Turns me on beyond belief to run my fingers through his hair and smell MY brand of shampoo...because he used it in my shower after he spent the night in my bed. MMmmmmm... :D

I've been using Alfred Sung for about 12 years now. Still my favorite. :)

For a guy Id have to say Hugo Boss, Drakkar, and Chrome. I do like Polo too but after my Mom In Law said it smelt like pot it was hard to get in the mood when he was wearing it, Id always end up giggling.

I wear Shi by Alfred Sung Im allergic to bees so I like to wear lighter stuff as to not attract them. Shalamar is an old stand by.

Now to find the right guy wearing Hugo Boss in a crisp suit and tie, hmmm that could cause some problems! lol

HEY! Awesome bracelet! ;)

AND ... awesome stage today, wasn't it? Is it premature to say ... 6?

Dollface has some good advice. Some other general advice for the clueless masses of guys out there-

Don't go cheap, plan on spending at least $20 (bare minimum!) on a good cologne. The stuff lasts forever anyway, so if you work it out you will spend pennies a use for it anyway. Don't buy it at a store like wal mart unless you know what you are doing. If you don't know what you are doing stay the hell away from the fragrance counter and go to some place where they actually know quality fragrances.

As everyone knows, the big danger with cologne and perfume is using so much it becomes overpowering. The main reason for this is that people often spray it until they can smell it. The problem with that is a person becomes acclimatized to the fragrance and gradually has to keep applying more in order for their nose to smell it and their brain to say that it is enough. Spray bottles dispense a metered amount with each squirt, and it is that amount for a reason! If they wanted you to use more they would have made it squirt more! Anyway so as a rule of thumb use no more than 2 squirts, and if you can't smell anything just remember everyone else can, and secretly admire you for wearing the perfect amount!

You were too? I didn't even worry about whether or not the neighbors cared. Hehe.

Allez Lance!

OLD SPICE!!!

I love old spice deodorant, and the cologne is nice, too. I could just sniff it forever.

Unfortunately, lots of guys says it gives 'em a rash. :(

I even wore Old Spice for a while because I liked the smell so much. :D I think it gave me a rash. ;) Now its back to Dove.

As for perfume, I wear Pleasures by Estee Lauder. It's a stupid name, but I've received three compliments just this week, so I guess it stays. ;)

I have to stress the importance of trying on colognes first! Something that smells like one thing from the bottle will smell completely different on you. Don't fork over $50, $60, even $70 bucks or more before you know how it smells on you. I love knowing that a guy is making an effort to be clean, but the effect is ruined when he's drenched in cologne that smells just plain bad on him.

Happy hunting.

When I went shopping for a scent many years ago, I went with a friend of mine who worked the fragrance counter. She suggested I go early in the morning and not after a heavy meal- supposedly the food's chemistry could mess with the innate nature of trying out a cologne.

She also insisted that I at least sniff a few colognes before applying them to determine whether I preferred a woodsy, spicy, musky or sweet scent.

I dabbed only one on my wrists & wore it for that day. She suggested I come back again on another day and try another one- and just one again.

Her idea was to wear it for the day and see how I felt about it. It was also so I wouldn't get into sensory overload at the counter where there are 100's of smells wafting about. I guess you could almost call it a test drive.

I eventually settled on Karl Lagerfeld's KL but that was what I felt comfortable with. Try on several would be my suggestion. To me, a cologne is as personal as any fashion or style that you might have.

I know even after all these years whenever I smell Liz Claiborne I still think about a long lost love so realize that this is an identity you're carving out as well.

Good luck.

i can home in on davidorff's 'cool water' from about 1km away, through a crowded nightclub, out the back, through strollers in the night-time street and into the subway!

lllllooooooooooooovvvveeeee that one!

:D

What a very, very, very, very, very smart man. Don't stop using that cologne. There are women like me in the world who get clit boners from smelling yummy scents on men.

And vice versa for great scents on women but sans clit on us menfolk. We just get simple boners.

It really depends on the guy. The guys scent mixes with the cologne and makes it unique to him. For the most part, I like Cool Water though ... it makes the guy seem laid back and kinda 'beachy.' Also, the new Old Spice deodrant, I think it's called 'cool sport' or something, that smells really good too. Whenever my SO wears that, I just want to hop right on him!!!
