College Campuses - Hotbed for Violence Against Women

While I was in college I became more aware of the sexual violence against women that seemed to be proliferating. It was while I was in college that the date rape drug - initially Rufis - was used quite prolifically. There were numerous stories of women who had fallen prey to the drug and the male predators who used them to gain what they couldn't get without the assistance of chemicals.

I spoke to one woman who was pinned against the wall and raped by a guy she liked after a party. He locked the door to the study room, physically overpowered her, and then raped her. What was the worst thing about the whole event, is that the woman was completely scourned. The story was out in days - because the guy simply had to tell his fraternity brothers about how he nailed her.

When I found out that the fraternity several of my friends were members of had access to Rufis, I went off on the guys. I couldn't believe that they would surround themselves by such vile men who were no better than violent sexual predators that sit in jail cells in our country.

Women, I hope you are all aware of the dangers of date rape drugs. Here is an article about some things that are being done to circumvent the effects of "Liquid G" a more modern date rape drug.

Beyond this, why do you think the instance of sexual violence against women has reached such astronomical numbers?

That happined to me. It was after work when we all went to a bar to have some fun. One of the guys put some roofies in my beer and I remember feeling reaally tired. I woke up the next day and they had all took turns. I wanted to tell the police but I thought I had let them do it but there was one who told me later that they had put something in my drink. he felt reall bad about it. THat was a few years ago.

at my school, one fraternity slipped roofies in the drinks of several girls at a mixer. When the girls started acting weird, their sisters took them home.

I've always believed the use of roofies has more to do with opportunity than anything else. College is the first time that most of these girls have been truly on their own and their innocent beliefs as to safe places at colleges (like dormrooms and fraternities) almost seems as an open invitation to violence. However, not all college men are evil rapists--its just that the few bad apples are the ones to get the press coverage.

You're absolutely right, Freya. There are Rufis and G in all places. But, the prevalence of their use and the instance of date rape seems to be incredibly high on college campuses.

Yeah, it's getting worse and drugs are a huge part of it. It's not even taking a drink from someone you don't know. In a crowded bar anyone can be momentarily distracted.

Thankfully the figures released by feminists about violence against women on campuses and elsewhere are usually over-blown and padded for effect. I am not saying that it is a big problem that should not be dealt with swiftly and that women should not be educated about the danger of date rape...buuut, many of these female activists are not above exaggeration and outright lies when it comes to pushing their causes to the general public.

One college that had a case of PC gone amoke decided to promote awareness they released pictures of all the male students with the warning label "potential rapist" underneath them. It's a good thing I didn't go to that college cause if someone talked shit about me like that (especially in such a humiliating and public format as that) there would have been some asses kicked.

Also, on a related subject, there are also many cases of college men raped on campus at such beer parties as well. Most men get woodies at some point in their sleep, fellas, if you don’t want to suddenly be the father of some (possibly ugly) chick you don’t remember fucking then don’t get so sloshed that you pass out at a party (a horny chick may ride you’re “bologna pony” while you eating floor).

One of the frats at tech was suspended because they were putting ruffies or whatever in their beer. When they did jungle juice parties they would have one tub for the men and one tub for the women. The women's tub was spiked with drugs. Many of them were athletes it is pathetic how much power they have at most universites because they just got a slap on the wrist no criminal charges were filed.

I was date raped in first year college. I wasn't drugged. Anyway, I'm now part of a group that is against sexualized violence.. not just against women, but against all people, of all races and genders. It's sad, y'know, the instance of date rape, the instance of sexualized violence.

Having worked with this group for a year now, I'm a spokesperson to the residence on my campus. I give some talks, and my number's out there for people who are interested in talking with me, or with the crisis line on campus.

Here's a stat from my uni: in the first month of university, an average of 16 rapes in dorms ARE REPORTED, among FIRST YEARS. Come ON! This is just SICK.

C. I have the same relationship with women that most women have with men (a love hate type thing) I am just more open and honest enough about it to post some of my feeling here (unfortunately I have mostly been just posting my negative ones using the board as an outlet to vent frustrations). However, most women do the exact same thing, complain and bitch but deep down inside we (men and women) both need each other no matter how much we annoy each other at times.

Damn right I can tell you that, I DID say it was a problem, just that certain segments of the women's movement are prone to exaggerate it in order to make it sound like a woman is raped on campus every millisecond or something. The truth about the epidemic speaks loud enough as it is, and over inflating the figures dose nothing but hurt there own cause in the final analysis.

Also remember that not ALL reported rapes really are rapes just as not all rapes that occur are reported. The sword cuts both ways on that one, some vindictive women make that stuff up to get back at someone they don't like or they have reservations and after consensual sex for one reason or another will claim it was rape. It may be a small proportion but I am trying to cover all the bases here.
