Can't it be jewelry that symbolizes the collar?
If it should be something that they can't remove themselves, then Eternity collars are a bit dressier, I guess. Other than that I'm out of suggestions, but maybe someone else knows more about these things.

So, if I were to get my guy dog tags, it would be perfectly acceptable to have just about anything written on them?

For the OP, how about a mesh-style necklace, or something made out of chainmaille (google Byzantine chain for an example).

For Bette, it would seem that tags should say whatever you wish, with the caveat that there might be a risk of someone reading them who might not understand, and your comfort zone with that possibility.

The symbolic collar can be anything you want it to be. Slave wanted and got a silver Figaro chain over 10 years ago. She and I know exactly what it means but no one else does.The only reason the collar/chain comes off of for special medical procedures that necessitate its removal and it goes back on as soon as possible.

I sometimes come up behind her and pull the chain/collar gently against her throat and ask."Remember me slave?" She says when I do she just melts.

Some pet stores have machines that allow special printing on the tags. One of our play collars has one that says. "Masters Property." She says she really likes that one too.

Anything your Master and you want can be your collar..

Even though Master and I are only online, I do wear a silver necklace as a symbolic collar for Him.

I recently left my Master, but the collar he had given me for daily wear was a chainmaille collar. It was Stainless steel (because the typical chainmaille rings I had used on multiple occassions turned colors, the chain and my neck). My chain was made by a gentleman on Fetlife called Sbear. His work is excellent and his websites is http://glendonschains.webs.com/ If you see something you like, send him a picture and most of the time can duplicate it or make something to your liking.

His prices are reasonable, He will customize to your liking. For daily wear would wear a symbol that was meaningful to Sir and I (A dreamcatcher) but on the weekends and for events I would add a dog tag that he could attach and on it was written That I was his property and my slave number.
