Hi all,

I'm surfing a creative wave at the moment and I want to carve it up as long as possible. I have an idea I'd like to try if anyone's interested - a poetry/prose crossover.

What I'm asking for is a poem of your choice. I will read it and then write a short story based on my feelings about it. In exchange, I supply a short story, (max 3000 words), you read and write a poem inspired by it.

If you want to get a feel for my writing, have a read here: Vice Cream. (Don't let the first story scare you, they're not all that extreme). It's a collection of seven short-short erotic stories but the story I'd supply for this would probably not be erotic fiction.

The subject matter of your poem would be completely up to you.

If you're interested, let me know and maybe link to a poem you'd like me to read to get an idea of your style.

I have no idea if this has been done before or if anyone will have the slightest interest, I'm just tossing it out here because I've been reading and enjoying some excellent poetry on Lit, lately.

Thanks,
K

I'll try one and if you don't want to use it I won't be offended. I think it's a great idea. :rose:

Hey, annaswirls bitchy slut sister, here

I'll give it a shot if you are interested.

check the erotic ones out, although sometimes I categorize them non-erotic, like this one: shopping list: aisle 7
damn, I do not even remember writing some of these!

I wrote one you might have liked for your vanilla story :) it is also about vanilla ice cream but included hot apple pie....your dessert plate

Another option is to use a poem as a part of the story? Have the poem be sort of a request that gets interpreted by the characters? Or written in response to an event that occurs in the story?

That is such a cool idea I suspect you'll get many offers, and I don't want to overload you. But count me in on round two, or something.

I honestly didn't expect much of a response, so...wow. Great!

annaswirls bitchy slut sister, I loved the poems. Yes, nice companion to my Vanilla.

So, here's what I'm thinking: I'll do two for now then notify when/if it's time for a second round. How does that sound? WD and Seattle, I've got a story in mind, what's the best way to send it? (See, I didn't plan this out very well, did I?)

You can either PM me the poem of your choice or just send me the link if it's on Lit. I think I may just leave the door open as to how I use them - as straight interpretation, as part of the story, as the opening to the story, etc, etc. - and feel free to do likewise.

Bijou, you are first up for round two! Thanks so much for such quick responses.

Smiles,
K

You can PM. And if you want my Email it's the same as my Lit name at aol.

If you do a second round, I'd be interested. But I'd also be interested in the reverse--you have me read a poem you've written, I write some kind of story, then you write a poem based on your reaction to that.

You write pretty good poems, so you should have no problem with that, and my nonexistent fiction skills would almost certainly insure a kind of car crash humor to the thing. I'll even throw in a penguin, if you like.

Linus stood ramrod straight in the corner, oddly prim in his over-gelled hair and freshly pressed tuxedo, balancing what appeared to be an ostrich egg on his bare, slightly blue feet. His slacks were rather pointedly tented, and Natalya suddenly realized that his request that she assist him that evening with some CBT probably did not mean that they would be revising the "Welcome to Linux" tutorial.

If it is like her other story I figure she'll need 6-12 depending on what she has in mind.

Consider me officially cracked up! Your penguin prose is Pulitzer worthy. The old switcheroo, eh? That could be fun and humiliating...I'm in! LOL.

Round One update:

I've received inspirational poetry from WD and SeattleRain and I have given them my story in return. Initially, I was going to write two separate stories but I had a lightbulb moment, in which the two very different poems juxtaposed, and so now I'm working on a single scribble. Hopefully I will have it spit polished by this weekend. I'll post it on here, (once I have the response poem from Seattle - WD has sent me his), since it will likely only be about 1000 words-ish. If it's OK, I'll add a link to their poems as well?

Round Two:

Will probably happen next week with me, unpredictablebijou and Tzara. Bijou, we can keep the format the same for you, if you like, and I'll do the switchy thing with Tzara. Or we can do the switchy thing all around. (I'm confusing myself). Whatever you prefer. Let me know.

Oh and any other ideas are most welcome.

It's all happening so fast!

Life has seriously interrupted my play, I will get to this, but I have not even read your story yet.

Why so short? Longer stories seem to do better. At least over one lit page. I'm guessing around 2500 words.

No worries. I know all about interruptions.

Time, my dear WD. I have about six *real* stories, (aka, stuff that might help pay the bills someday), that I'm working on and one very long Lit story. Also, I'm OCD about editing my work so it takes awhile to get stuff to the point where I'm ready to share.
