Cold cures

Seriously, I didn't use wasabi, but I have this kick-your-ass-out-the-window horseradish mustard from Sam's club that I put on half a ham sandwich and that opened my nose up most wonderfully.

This seems dangerous, Doctor. What happens if the sandwich gets stuck in there?

I haven't had a cold in two years :D THANK GOD!!!

Best prevention: Don't ride public transport. If you must, then wash your hands (snotty nosed kids often wipe their noses on the poles) and don't let people breathe on you, they really do have coutties. ;)

Having previously worked in the medical 'business', I can say with certainty that there is no cure for the common cold, however, the brain is a powerful thing, and if you think it works, it probably makes you feel 100% better already.

Vitamin C and Zinc help to fight the cold virus. (Which ever one you happened to catch, there are many.) Horesradish is an old Russian treatment for the cold, and it works, as do any other truly spicy foods. (HorseRadish works best though.) It clears the sinuses for a time, which helps with the breathing.

Jewish Penicilin, ie. Chicken Soup also helps for many reasons. A) The steam helps loosen the mucus in the sinuses. B) The calories help your body fight the virus. C) There is an enzyme in it that does help the body with Viruses. (Folk remedies do work.)

I feel sorry for Fred Astaire. He could only sing and dance exquisitely.

My standard cold remedy is to go to bed with copious quantities of liquids and Captain Morgan. In a pinch I would substitute Edward Teach, but perhaps that would invalidate your religion, Zoot.

I'll not only pinch but have also been known to spank on request.

Ps - Don't think this means that I'm easy.

Occasionally a spank can act as an incentive.

A pinch is merely an occupational hazard.

A good incentive may get you started but it's plenty of reward that'll keep you coming back.

Sorry about the hijack, I couldn't resist.

For coughs, my grandmother used to mix brown sugar and molasses with a small portion of moonshine. You sipped it. It was very effective. She even gave it to the children.

Moonshine, or other suitably strong Alchohol will work to quiet a cough. (GI Gin was one of the best. I believe it was NaOH with Codien.)

Now to truly zonc your cold for the day, start it off with a couple of Benadryl the night before. When you get up in the morning take a Psuedophedrine, followed by a hot, (and I do mean a hot,) shower with lots of steam. Follow this with a breakfast of Eggs with Hot sauce.
For lunch have soup and a snadwich. Chicken Noodle Soup, with plenty of veggies. The sandwich can be what ever you want, as long as you toss on plenty of Horseradish.
Dinner is much the same. Oh and don't forget to take your vitamins. When you get ready for bed have a nightcap, something strong, and don't mix it with anything.

This may not cure your cold, but it will make it more tolerable.

KIWIS oh yes, kiwis are great at helping with colds. :D ;) Great idea English Lady!

(Doc try a hot water bottle on your chest... the warmth helps ease the tight muscles if it's a chesty/bronchial cough. Hope you're feeling better soon. :rose: )
