Dear impressive,

I'd like to introduce myself; I am Jack Winters and I head up a newly-established, fresh and aspiring erotica entertainment company.

I was just on this site gaining inspiration when I came across your literature; you certainly have notable talent. I'd be keen to learn more of your writing abilities and services in this genre.

If this has sparked any interest to you then I'd welcome you to contact me where we can begin to talk further.

Many kind regards,

Jack Winters

I simply replied: "I am flattered and intrigued. Tell me more." *shrugs*

:D

Let us know - this sounds fun.

I got one today from somebody claiming to represent a startup company called COCKROACH PRESS.

I might have been intrigued, but they were more interested in me 'contributing' to some series of books using their outlines and characters. No, I only write my own stuff.

Also they sent the same letter to my e-mail address but starting 'Dear Mr. yim'. I'm afraid that didn't do much to improve my attitude towards them.

Sounds like a euphamism to me.

"Hey little lady, what say we go upstairs and I introduce you to Mr. Yim?"

I'm not certain.

I got two such responses: one was from an e-mail address at Walla.com, asking me to send in the "unedited" edition of Be Mine with absolutely no explanation of who he/she is or what he/she wanted with my story. There is no "unedited" edition, the "edited" that's beside Be Mine's title was a mistake on behalf of the Lit editors who forgot to remove it before posting, but anyway. The second was about one of my poems, and the person had cut & pasted the entire poem and put it in the body of the e-mail (with hardly any other comments besides the poem itself). I deleted them both.

I like Shang's interpretation better.

I got one that was interesting, but they didn't get back to me after I asked about getting paid. Go and figure.

Rob,

I also got a cockroach msg, maybe a day or two ago. Same deal. That's a system used by some legit publishers who put our serial books in genres such as westerns. But even in the very, very, very unlikely event they're legit, it's not for me, either. I've already deleted my cockroach-gram.

I did not as you and did not I respond to him. Seriously? Why care about one who does not get you as a writer? Pfft. I would not give anyone the time of day (mainly - I did once - faux pas) :D

Edit to add a mistake: those people want you to be upset and challenge them.
