Does anyone here use coconut oil for sex? I've always been shell shocked by the price of lube, and the taste has always been an issue along with the scent. It seems like even after washing the sheets I can still smell lube. As we get a little older, sometimes it's handy stuff though.

I just recently learned that coconut oil can be used as a sexual lubricant. I had no idea, but if what I'm reading is true then I don't know why we'd even bother with other lubes (we don't have to worry about condoms and oils). In fact, it seems to have a lot of uses.

I've read that refined is more sanitary than unrefined. Any thoughts?

Plant based oils do have a few disadvantages as lubes, which explain why they aren't the most popular kind of lube. The big one is that all oils destroy latex, so they can't be used with latex condoms. They also aren't very sperm-friendly, for people on the other end of the spectrum who are trying to have a baby. Second, many oils are flammable, and they also are very difficult to wash out of fabric. Third they can contribute to acne or yeast infections, but this varies a lot from individual to individual; natural oils can actually make dry skin healthier.

It is 100% free of parabens. Sylk is a water-based lubricant made of 100% natural ingredients, including:
  • Aqua (purified water)
  • Actinidia Chinensis (Kiwi) Fruit Plant Extract
  • Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract
  • Xanthan Gum
  • Vegetable Glycerine
  • Citric Acid
  • Potassium Sorbate
  • Sodium Citrate

As with all oils, the extraction process makes all the difference. Expeller and chemical processes are the worst, cold pressing is the best. Expellers oxidize the oil, which make it go rancid. Solvent processing, as the name suggests isn't the healthiest of options.

Coconut oil has many many health benefits, one of the biggest is thyroid stabilization. I've not heard of it being used as a lube before, however, if it's of good quality, then it won't likely cause any issues. Nutiva brand is one of the best brands, available at Costco and other retailers.

Continue with your research, and report back with your findings.

Coconut oil is quite heavy and thick. I think I would opt for a lighter oil, such as grape seed. It's great for your skin, absorbs relatively quickly, makes a great massage oil and (from my understanding) is ok on your delicate parts. I would look more into it before using it for that purpose, though, to be safe. I use the stuff on my face and hair. It's also less expensive than coconut oil.

This stuff has a weird feel to me. And, it's not quite cheap. Not insanely pricey.

Some people might like the feel. And, it's not bad for water based. But it just has a slightly odd feeling to me.

Hadn't heard of that ..

Hadn't heard of using grape seed oil - we use that, as well as organic cold-pressed coconut oil for high temperature cooking (and the latter for the naughty stuff ;-)

Gonna have to expand our horizons with the grape seed oil though . . thanks for the tip on that!

Lots of other good info from the other posters too - thanks to you as well. Cheers, E.

I've heard great things about almond oil for lube. I use it as a moisturizer and it's incredible, it's light and it absorbs into the skin quickly. Coconut oil on the other hand is really heavy and it's comedogenic.

I've only ever used Prince songs for lube. I have no experience with coconut oil.

We tend to favor silicone lube, but we've used coconut oil (the virgin Nutiva brand in the giant jar from Costco that NM mentioned) many times. It's very good for hand jobs, especially in the shower. :D

As I'm sure you've read, Pplwatching, coconut oil is one of the only oils that's typically considered safe/healthy as a personal/sexual lubricant because of its natural antibacterial properties. I'm a great candidate for infections and sensitivities, yet coconut oil is one of the very, very few lubes I can use without causing any problems.

That said, I wouldn't recommend sticking a bunch of semi-solid coconut oil into any vagina or ass. Start with just enough to do the job, and see how it goes for you two. Try exchanging massages with coconut oil -- it's fantastic to be able to transition to more intimate places and/or sex without worrying about the "massage oil" causing an infection (which can be the case with mineral/baby oil, almond oil, etc.). And, yes, clearly it's a good idea to ensure neither of you have a sensitivity to coconut oil applied topically and to mucous membranes first and play on linens that you don't mind getting oil all over. I use coconut oil for all sorts of food, health and topical applications daily, though, and I've actually found it to be one of the easier oils to remove from (at least cotton) fabrics.

Let us know how it goes for you and the Mrs.!

the timing of this thread is interesting to me. I've been reading a bit about coconut pulling for teeth as a preventive care. For that, they recommend virgin coconut oil. I have used it in the past as a hair conditioner, for "self-care" and hand jobs. I thought it was great, but haven't used it in a long time. In fact, I had forgotten about it until this thread.
It's almost solid/creamy until you put it on your fingers and then it thins from the heat of your hands.

We have used it for sex, masturbation and prostate play. Works excellently. IMHO :)

Thanks, everyone. I'm looking forward to giving it a try! One more item on the Costco shopping list.

The mental image of this made me chuckle. :)

not to derail things too much but I just want to add that coconut oil is absolutely brilliant for detangling hair.

just putting that out there~

I've been keeping a tub next to my bed to moisturize with before sleeping. I don't like the smell or stickiness of a lot of creams. It rubs in fast and I the smell dissipates quickly. Just found out recently it can be a lube.

We have used coconut oil a few times. We used the kind we got in a big tub at Costco. It was ok. The nice thing is the scent. Everything smells like a Mounds bar. So far no problems with any sort of infection but we only tried it a few times.

VCO - Dr. Bronner's

I love the stuff... for all kinds of sexual and non-sexual purposes, although after you dip your hand in the jar too many times during sex, it starts to lose it's appeal as a cooking ingredient.

We keep the actual jar/tub in the kitchen. For non-cooking purposes, I scoop a bit out into a small container to take to the bedroom or bathroom as a single-use sort of thing. That's probably common sense for you and most people here, although from what I've read, many don't think twice about contaminating a larger container of lube with bodily bacteria and secretions.

Yes. When I straighten my ridiculously curly hair and use a little coconut oil, it looks amazing! However, the few times I have done this, my face gets super greasy. :(

I won't use it again for hair.

Have you tried it as a deep-conditioning treatment, with a shower cap or similar to keep your hair away from your face?

I haven't tried it yet, but I got curly hair too. When I straighten it, it get's bushy and frizzy like Hermonie Granger.
