It's not so much a matter of what the drug does physiologically (there are a lot of articles about that). How do you think it functions within erotica — what does it make characters do and what does it stop them from doing? How would a first-person narrator even express what it feels like (i.e. what does it feel like)? I want to be relatively realistic with my inclusion of the drug, but it's fiction so I think it's okay to be a little reductionist.:D

I'll assume you are talking about powder, not crack.

When I wrote about my cocaine addiction in My Fall and Rise, I tried to make the link between my drug use and my sexual life, because they were intrinsically connected. Using coke always seemed a bit erotic to me. In part, because my usage was so much a part of my relationship at the time.

The euphoria of a coke high, and the lowering of inhibitions that went with it, made me feel more open sexually. One of the reasons so many rock stars, actors, etc, use cocaine is that it gives you a great feeling of confidence. To me, that meant that any thoughts I had that I wasn't pretty enough, wasn't sexy enough, disappeared and I thought I was the hottest bitch on the planet. It was that feeling, as much as anything else, that pushed me into greater and more frequent usage. I said in MFAR that when I did cocaine for the first time, I fell in love twice, with the man who gave it to me and with the coke itself. Later, I wrote that after I was in recovery, seeing someone doing coke in a movie or hearing it mentioned in a song felt like being reminded of an ex-lover.

There is also the bonding aspect of two (or more) people getting high together. It is, in and of itself, an intimate experience.

To the question, what did it stop me from doing? Absolutely nothing. I would not say that, in and of itself, it "made me" do anything, but in order to get it, I did a great many very bad things.

As for the feeling,(again, assuming your characters are snorting it) first there is a little bit of a burning feeling, then your nose (or gums if you've rubbed it in) become numb. You can often feel a dripping sensation in the back of your throat.

You will quickly feel a sense of exhilaration. Your heart will beat faster. You may begin to sweat. The exhilaration grows into a sense of euphoria. You feel like you are overflowing with energy, and you need to release it, through talking, laughing, dancing, or, yes, fucking.

That will last, usually, about a half hour, unless you take another "bump" when you start to come down.

Afterwards, there is often a feeling of restless jittery letdown. A sort of kid on the day after Christmas feeling.

If you want to know about long term effects or anything like that, I can discuss that as well, if you'd like.

Thank you so much for this extremely comprehensive reply! I’m grateful for the insight and it’ll definitely immensely improve how I approach the topic.

If I may ask, does a craving manifest immediately after first use? Would someone reach for more as soon as the initial effects wear off? (A first-time user, that is.)

I know mixing alcohol and coke is a terrible idea, but I assume that doesn’t stop people doing it. Does that appreciably change the effect?

Then, lastly, 'how much' is typically consumed (snorted)… One line at a time?

Sorry for the dozen questions!

As someone who is now well into his 70’s and, despite experiencing and enjoying other aspects of the swinging 60’s, never done drugs (except medicinally in great quantities over the last ten years) reading your post was really interesting. I was aware, of course, of your past because of My Fall and Rise but it was a long time ago and detailed memories fade.

Thank you, I'm happy to answer.

Cocaine is definitely a drug that invites binging. You feel this incredible euphoria, but it fades quickly. It's natural to immediately want more. And something I did mention in my first comment, in regard to the erotic aspects, many men find that cocaine makes it hard for them to ejaculate. Of course, most of them will, rather than let the coke's effects fade away, opt to stay high and keep trying.

I didn't drink much alcohol with coke, so I don't have any great knowledge there. I think you would have to really drink a lot to counter the coke.

My usual practice was to initially snort two lines or spoonfuls, one in each nostril, and then, if I was going to keep going, do one line or spoon every once in a while as I felt the effects fading. In my worst period of addiction, I would sometimes keep that up for a full day, get up the next morning and do it again.

As Robin Williams said, "Cocaine is God's way of telling you that you have too much money>"

Thank you.

In January, I will be seven years clean.

As a friend of mine put it, you can fuck all night, but you can't come.

Most use of cocaine I've seen in erotica is about being sexy, doing lines from a woman's breasts or between her legs, from a guy's stomach, or cock. Etc...they'll talk about the rush and how it heightens the senses and makes the orgasms stronger, the fucking more intense

Yada yada.

Well, I've never done coke, or any other drug, but grew up in a family and environment where they were the norm. I dated girls who were into that scene and heard the stories

I have a two word reality check for coke that I'm sure others here already know about.

Coke dick.

The fucking like an animal on it is possible of course, results may vary, but put it up there with 10" cocks and the women who can easily deep throat them. Myth over substance

The one person I knew who was really into it was self-destructive even before the cocaine. She was crazy smart, a whiz at math, she dropped out of college at around 19 to work for a brokerage. She was making well over $200,000 a year and would need to call me to lend her money as she could not pay to fill her gas tank.

Every penny she made she would spend within a few days. She stole her roommates rent money and went to the casino with it during one of her drug fueled binges.

I was diagnosed with ADHD really earlier on, got prescribed medication. My dipshit mother 'decided as the parent' that she could cure it with orange juice based on some crackpot lunatic fringe info she found somewhere and refused to let me take the medication. Just went against the teachers, school officials, and doctors advise for years.

After spending years struggling, I tried cocaine a few times, no so much because I wanted to but couldn't get my hands on Ritalin and was completely sick of failing at life.

What it will do is provide focus and calmed. So for me, that first time was bitter disappointment that I wasn't going to be normal and fit in. It didn't fix me long enough to be helpful but it provide focus and calmed me way down for a short while. The effects itself were kind of like when drinking alcohol where I could tell I was on something(I have the same problem with Ritalin, much less Adderall, and not at all with SSRIs).

Cocaine will stop you from wanting to bounce off the walls. It is really nice not wanting to bounce off the walls for a while, and if you can space it out, it can help with a long night of studying where you have to sit and focus for a few hours. I like SSRIs way better.

Well, eveyrbody told me it was the greatest drug to fuck on. Nope. I could not get it up on coke. Limp noodle. And ruined my sinuses for days.

The best drug to fuck on was Ludes. Now, that's a greats sex drug. Can't get it anymore, but the best of all time.

I did coke for years, but I don't think I ever did it like MB. My use was social. I loved the "up" high and the body sensations, but we did smaller doses. We did it in bars, playing pool, and at parties. I never experienced the "can't come" problem during sex, just the excitement, tension and thrill.

My friend who gave me the "fuck all night but can't come," line was a dealer, and the last time I saw him he was pimping a couple very pretty, under-age girls. Along with the drug come the associations.

Someone who wasn't me did some coke on the side in the past. I think nobody could've guessed that person to be THAT guy.

Personally, I think based on what people have described, I think a 'set' amount of cocaine WITHOUT dangerous adulterants (some people have higher or lower tolerance, keep in mind) should produce an expected result. When it's cut with crap like fentanyl, that's when the cocaine is dangerous.

Cocaine, despite its illegal status, is one of the most commonly used drugs out there. This just proves that the so-called war on drugs is a gigantic waste of money. For those who are affected by drugs, it seems rather difficult for people to get help (given its illegal status).

I think snorting coke a lot will have negative health impacts, but if one were to do it every once in a while, it is probably not healthy, but not THAT harmful. The key is to moderate the use.

As for social status, cocaine seems to be a fun drug to do. You do it with friends and with music, and it's a bonding experience.

Anyway, the person I am speaking above said that cocaine gives a pretty mild high, depending on how 'pure' it is. Its short half-life makes it an ideal drug that one could use without affecting work the next day. He also says that it gives some 'energy boosts', that some posters above have already referenced. It's similar to alcohol when you're tipsy, in that you become more daring and more chatty. Cocaine and sex are totally interlinked.

Maybe not. Ecstasy came after my time for that sort of exploration.

For me, acid always came with a big sexual component, but also with a lot of distractions.

Fair enough! I haven't heard of ludes before, so it was interesting to read about your experiences with it.

I also grew up in the sixties yet never really got into the drug scene. Then after graduating and after a few going nowhere jobs I joined the service where I was a law enforcement specialist ie. cop.

My sense of legal carried over after my stint and even though after going back to school, I just never had the urge or desire to even experiment with drugs.

I could afford them, my wife and I just never got into it. We had two children to think of then and it just wasn't on our schedule.

I had to be in my late fifties before I even tried pot. And while it got me high, the problem I had with it is that I could hear the conversation across the bar, club, room, but not the one at the table I was sitting at.

So, I just stuck with beer.

Just an aside, but did you know that if you take the word Milk and change just four letters your get Beer? :D

Ecstasy was a gateway for me; it was the drug that made the connection in my mind between sex and drugs.

I had already been sexually active from a young age, and all through high school, I drank beer and smoked pot, but I hadn't used anything more serious.

I was an awkward, self conscious girl, raised by a single mom, and had serious daddy issues. I never felt sexy, I was too tall, too skinny, boys didn't like me because I got better grades than them.

Then came x, and all of a sudden, with one little pill, I felt like the hottest bitch around. I was up for just about anything sexually.

The problem was, in a small rural town, x wasn't easy to come by, so I tried whatever was available. Oxy, Percodan, crushed Adderal or Ritalin. Before long, I was on the roller coaster. Something to get me high for an evening of partying, something to bring me down to get through the next day. "One pill makes you larger, and one pill makes you small." The highs got higher, the lows, lower.

Ironically, it was cocaine that got me out of that cycle. As I alluded before, the first time I did coke, it was like I had met my soul mate. It's all I wanted. Well, coke and sex, because, as I've said, they were linked in my mind.

My boyfriend was a small time pot dealer. As our coke use increased, so did our need more more money. We started dealing oxy, driving around northern Maine, selling it to contacts in mill towns and trailer parks, until we got in so far over our heads that the eventual train wreck it made of our lives was inevitable.

The other great irony is that, when I hit rock bottom and made the decision that I would choose getting clean over suicide, it wasn't that hard. I had used the coke to kick all the other drugs, and coke was relatively easy to quit.

But it still took me a couple of years after that to learn that I could be a happy, sexual, person, without chemical assistance. That was hard work for me, and for the man I fell in love with, but we did it.

And, I have to say, writing and publishing my story here was a big factor in that success.

As Robin Williams said, "Cocaine is God's way of telling you that you have too much money>"

And it was George Carlin who said something like: "What does cocaine feel like? It feels like making you want more cocaine."

I can't really talk about cocaine and sex from a personal perspective, but the best description of drug taking I've ever read was in the second book in the Patrick Melrose series Bad News by Edward St Aubyn

For me, of the psychedelics, mescaline was the best sex drug. And better than mushrooms (as you know, same drug) because you didn't have to throw up before the high kicked in. A lot of groups ex on that one.

What I can tell you about Cocaine is that it's a song by Eric Clapton - and now I have it stuck in my head. :D

I have found cocaine can be an amazing additive to sexual situations. Anytime we have partied and played I am exponentially more horny and open to a lot more. Basically turns me in to a slut
