Co-Ed prison sexy time, is it plausible?

I watched a pornographic film earlier today of a co-ed prison where male and female guards had their way with the various prisoners and a thought occurred to me as to whether I could make that into a story. Then it hit me that if male prisoners saw a female warden or female prisoners, they'd more than likely gang up on them, have their way with them, and leave them with nothing, no clothes, no sanity, and in the case of the guards, no weapons or keys, meaning a riot would ensue. They could escape, so I doubt it would work outside of the world of erotica. Still, the question remains: Could I make a story of sexual antics in a co-ed prison and have it come off as plausible, regardless of reality?

Also, if, and I strongly emphasize IF, co-ed prison orgies were a thing, how would they go about it?

Everything I know about prisons I learned from watching TV shows. Which means that I know absolutely NOTHING about how prisons really work. My guess is that most readers are in the same boat. So you can probably safely make up any paradigm you want, as long as it serves your story. Go for it!

The scenario might work best in a prison controlled by the inmates. Ostensibly the authorities are in charge but through corruption or intimidation or whatever, the prison is now run by a crime syndicate who either turn a blind eye to sexual activities, or encourage it. Maybe they make their money from porn, say. How they control all the officers I’m not sure. Maybe they’re not all in on it. Maybe their families are hostages. Maybe the payoffs are too attractive. Over time they’ve managed to ensure the staff and the prisoners are just the people they want, so sexual activity and whatever else they do to make money, goes on under the watchful eye of the Governor who’s compromised, and Mr Big who actually runs things. I wonder why they call him Mr Big…..

For me, a scenario where the visitors are vulnerable is very hot.

Perhaps the warders responsible for processing and searching them will choose who to call aside into a side room. No co-operation, no visit?

Taking it up a level, they may then let Mr Big, the convict leader, into the side room to have his way too. He can then be telling the prisoner how friendly the wife, daughter etc have been - which drives that convict crazy...

I know that in some prisons, female guards are around male inmates. There was a prison break not long ago, where the female guard helped a man escape. Pretty tragic ending to that one.

If I did this I would make the situation surreal and ridiculous while aiming for brutal realism on the surface. Like it's a prison to reform sex perverts, male and female, and someone thought it was a good idea to confine them together.

Imagine a co-ed version of the camp from Cool Hand Luke. The bosses inflict punishments like working on the whips and chains gang or spending the night in the glory hole. But somehow the inmates never seem to learn the lesson.

For a story for Lit, consider minimum security prison camps ... 'Club Fed' type places, even though they don't really exist as such. Places you''ll find more upscale, less violent offenders; Pharma Bros, bankers, accountants, realilty show couples doing time for fraud.

Also, there already are female prisons holding male immates because during the trial, such males suddenly realized that they are in fact women trapped in a male body.

I work in a jail. I have never heard of a coed prison or jail. Men and women inmates never see each other much less have an opportunity to have sex.

As for officers and inmates. Women COs supervise female inmates. Men outnumber women 10:1 so there aren’t a lot of females to begin with.

There is however a long history in prisons and jails of officers engaging in sex with inmates and inmates with each other but it’s not easy to do and they often eventually get caught. There is also times when civilian staff, not just officers get caught up in that too. It never ends well though.

In NY there was a civilian woman who was having an affair with two inmates and helped them escape. They were missing for about a month. She ended up getting arrested. Crazy story.

Showtime ended up making a movie about it.

So if a coed prison is implausible, how about a diversionary program where minor offenders choose to go to weekend detention rather than jail to receive lectures or training in overcoming their unlawful tendencies. That way any number of different types could end up together locked away for the weekend in some sort of custodial environment but sufficiently unsupervised to be able to fraternise. Or is it so unlike a prison that the reader interest in sex in that environment simply isn’t there?

I could conceivably set it as a penal colony in an existing universe. I think there were men and women in New Zealand where Tom Paris was imprisoned in the series premiere of Voyager.

Re-imagine Logan's Run as a penal colony. For even minor crimes, offenders are sentenced to Carousel and sent to the domed city. The Sandmen are prison guards. The rest including the search for Sanctuary and the escape could be worked in.

Okay, I know absolutely nothing about prison either.

However, if one desires to explore real or reality adjacent situations where sexual violence in prison is prevalent, there's the horrendous case of Russian prison culture to study. While to me those tales could be as well fairytales from a made up dystopian fantasy, it is believed the current Russian imperialism can't be understood without delving into this subject, because the country is run by ex-inmates or would be inmates who embrace this culture of violence and dominance as their own.

In this paradigm every interaction between inmates is seen as jousting for a place in pecking order, and those who are pushed sufficiently low on this order are declared "petuh" (with translate as "rooster" but the meaning is somewhat unexpected in context of other connotations that prototype is commonly used). Those "petuh" persons are in fact forced into prostitution, and face continued violent abuses. Reminder, we talk about all-male environment here. Fucking a "petuh" is not considered gay, while "petuh" are considered gay themselves, reduced to un-men status, complete with prohibition to beat them with fists, because that's "unclean" for the person doing the beating and may damage their own status. But that's a little respite from violence, involved techniques to beat and abuse them without "becoming dirty" are developed and approved. Guards apparently doesn't intervene, the fact likely collaborate, as evidenced by the symbolic holed spoon "petuh" are forced to eat with. In shared cells, they are forced to sleep on the floor, and they face constant humiliation in numerous ways. This status is considered unrecoverable, and may follow a person outside of the prison, in environments where former inmates or criminal organizations have power, including Russian armed forces.

Where do this sexual activity happen? Showers, and shared cells. Those tales typically imply that inmates can visit each other's cells relatively freely, at least during certain times as fact of life. No, I have no idea how that works, and yes, it certainly significantly contradicts the media image of an American prison. Russian media image of a prison depict a place with significant levels of anarchy and inmate power over each other. Reality of those claims can be proven by the prison tattoos, and a significant number of those aren't voluntary either, but done by other inmates through coercion or outright violence.

One way to imagine a coed prison would be prison authorities that completely disregard inmate's gender identity and physical sex. This could be approached eiter by existence of stupid accidental laws that preclude them of doing so, or by the prison being run by some outright inhumane force, such as machines or aliens.

I would combine this with small shared cells, one, two, three, rare max four person cells, and frequently reshuffled random (or seemingly random) assignment of said cells. One may end up in a cell with whomever for a night.

An environment could be imagined, where male and female inmates aren't necessarily directly mixed, but held in very close proximity. Inter-inmate interactions are minimal and controlled, but guards are allowed significant leeway to commit sexual violence. I think in such a scenario various acts of humiliation, consisting, but not limited to, forced forms of exhibitionism could be described. Inmate on inmate sex could be presented as both punishment and reward (including, the very same act may be both for different parties) administrated by the guards on a whim.
