Clumsy Rip-Off

Interesting. I was working thru the cats and hadn't gotten thru most and then I started getting site errors. Interesting. Maybe it's good news???

(And Crim I've been copying links into a word file. If I'm right I was at almsot 60 stories and I hadn't done group or horror yet)

Thanks SJ. Looks like we might not need them after all since none of the links are working any more. :)

I had gotten up to 73 (others) when the pages stopped loading.

This doesn't seem right. Their list of cats only goes up to Group Sex and an alpha listing of that cat. starts with "MY.....

I suspect they just hadn't gotten around to the whole list.

I'm thinking that if the sites do get pulled, we should all be diligent cuz it wouldn't surprise me if the same folks put up yet another site. Unless Laurel and Manu put the fear of god into them, which is distinctly possible.

Those sites are based in mainland China. That country has a different take on copyright law and in practice I doubt that any of us have enough power, money and influence to make a Chinese based organisation do anything it doesn't want to.

All we could do is make life difficult for them by flooding their sites with messages.

I wonder if those resposible for stealing the stories could read enough English to understand that they only had part of longer stories?

As long as they use a U.S. based server, we can do something about it.

Something that I'm holding in reserve: this site, which is an adult site, does NOT have an adult content warning. (That's the first page that you have to go through to get to adult site by US law.) If it looks like nothing else will work, I'm going to report it in the hopes that where we don't have enough clout, the federal government does.

Og - the ISP is in California, so the DMCA comes into play and they have to remove the infringing material off of their servers.

Looks like Jeff got tired of receiving emails about copyright violations and shut down both the sites. :nana:

Don't discount the power of Laurel and Manu either; they were getting their lawyer involved.

And with all the emails from us, the authors and from L & M they just gave up and probably pulled the plug!

Now to go find someother creepazoids that ripped me off! ;)

Okay, this is weird, but seriously, is there any way to land-mail Laurel and Manu? I have this sudden, desperate urge to ship them a box full of flowers and candy and thank you gifts.

Then again, I do this once a year... I just sent off boxes to the Netherlands, Finland, London, Canada and various points around the US. I see no reason not to include the Mods, as right now, I am hopelessly in love/adoration/idolatry of them.

I know I had a snail mail addy for them at one point cuz of a price check, but I don't think I have it anymore. I totally agree with you, tho. Keeping this site up and running so well all by itself makes me love them, but stuff like this makes me want to give them big hugs and kisses. No way around it: Laurel and Manu rock.

So far I found 40 stories and hadn't really startd Group Sex. I guess I will knock it off now, but I will keep the list. I often find stories of mine that have been ripped off and I will keep the template to report them.

Just got this reply from Jeff at the abuse dept:

Thanks for writing. I have disabled access to the entirety of both
domains until such that as the other party is able to supply us with a
DMCA Counter-Notification. If they fail to do so, the domains will remain
offline. I believe that this will satisfy the requirements of the DMCA.

I received the same. It seems that the number of complaints must have convinced them to take down the two sites.

I've sent a note of thanks to Jeff, their abuse department representative. I do think that their actions were swift and effective, and they seem to have handled this well.

I'm too lazy to look back through the site to see who Jeff is. Is he the webmaster for the sites or is he the guy who runs the ISP orw who?

Jeff is in charge of the abuse desk at the ISP...

Just a note to check your spyware and virus checking software. I found a thing called "Win32.Trojan. cookie" something or other on my computer and that's about it for wonky sites I've visited. ABG also went to one of the two sites and only had tracking cookies on his computer, so it might not be, but I thought I'd hand out a warning anyway.

It would be just like these sites to have computer communicable nasties on them, too.

Almost all these sites have nasty stuff on them. I have to have McAfee fight them off when I am googling. Some of them actually take over the computer and I have to shut it off to get free.

Thank you, brothers and sisters (and assorted quadrupeds)

An illuminating display of solidarity. I haven't been around here much lately, but maybe I need to make more time. Being in a different time zone doesn't help. I go to sleep and things happen. At least now I can get back to Plan A for today, and do some damned writing!

www.sexeroticstories.org is back up! I can't get the alternate site (http://sexstoryxxx.org/) to open.

I was feeling good, too. Back to my list of stories. I hadn't actually got around to emailing, but I will now. Can anyone who did check if their story links are still blocked?

I find myself wondering if they've just changed ISPs and put the site back up. How do I check?

Bastards!
