Hey all

I'm new here and I'm just curious if anyone else really gets off on what the characters wear in there stories. I guess you could call it a fetish, but I've always enjoyed dressing up my female character in sexy/slutty outfits. I say sexy/slutty depending on how openminded you may or may not be. I go into detail about makeup, hair, outfit, shoes, all of it. Anyone else do that?

Yeah I do that myself. There definately is a fine line though between getting in the details that makes for a good story and bogging it down with stuff most readers skip over. Finding the balance can be difficult.

Myself I am not so much into the slutty outfits as I am uniforms. There is no question there, that is most definately a fetish, and I fine one at that. (LOL)

I try to, I find that it sets the scene and lets the reader understand what the feel is.

However if you write to much people will start to skip over stuff.

To me, a lot of those details tend to be as boring as listing weight, cup size, measurements, etc.

I feel that subtle descriptions are usually best. It doesn't turn me on to hear a list of what someone is wearing. I especially hate whole paragraphs that focus on a description of the person that you're usually confronted with in the first few paragraphs.

I'd rather read "That blonde haired nymphette leaned over and winked, giving him a glimpse of her cleavage and a come fuck me now look."

Instead of "She had blonde hair, a white low cut shirt, jeans, and boots on. She leaned over and winked at him."

I think if you are looking for a specific audience of people who want lots of clothing detail, you might do okay in the fetish category, but generally I agree with bisexplicit.

First of all, welcome to Lit Bob. :)

I, personally, am a fan of details. However, there are certain details I leave out of a tale to keep my readers wondering, and wanting more. :D Like Deadwood and Sean Renaud said, there's a fine line between "just the right amount" of details and too much.

As a reader, I tend to hit the back button if the author describes a character's body within the first three paragraphs, and especially if it sounds like a "shopping list". (IE: My wife Sara had a beautiful body for 40. She was tall, thin, blond, had perky 40DDs, and a shaved pussy.)

Also, as Sirhugs said, you may have some very good readership in the Fetish category if you take the clothing detail from a fetishy standpoint. :)

Good luck!

I tend towards a more minimalist approach when describing my characters. I'd rather use a few descriptive words that hint at size and shape rather than running through a long list of physical traits down to height, weight, length and cup size. When I do describe clothing its pretty general and will only mention one or two pieces.

I would think you'd have better luck in fetish if you want to go very in depth and spend many words on the clothing descriptors. That seems more important there when the clothing becomes the main focus of the sexual attraction and person wearing it becomes somewhat secondary.

but what if I enjoy the misery?

( or have we hijacked this thread enough?)

I'd find a way to make it unenjoyable.

And there can never be enough hijacking. :D

isn't it bijacking if you do it?

I get off on what a character is wearing as long as it's a good description. If it's a shitty description, then don't bother, but if you go into specific detail about especially a girl's clothing, it really adds to the 'mind movie' that's being created.

I'ma huge fan of sexy lingerie and uniforms but the descriptions should ideally be woven into the story and not laid out as facts within the first few sentences.
