My girlfriend and I recently started putting regular wooden clothes pins on each other. On nipples, chest, stomach, thighs etc. on and around our naughty bits.

How long can they be left on safely?

We bought a new pack and we pinned them on some stuff for a while so they would sort of loosen up some.

We obviously don't want anything bad to happen, so any tips/advice would be welcomed

The longer they stay on, the more it hurts when you take them off. It's due to blood/oxygen returning to the tissue and being able to send pain signals to the brain again.

Don't leave them on long enough to go numb, and don't leave them on long enough to make the skin turn purple, or that might bruise really badly and hurt the skin in a not-sexy way. It's different from person to person, you'll just have to keep an eye out on the skin being pinched between the pin teeth.

The rough rule of thumb is usually 15-20 minutes, max; 10-15 would be a more conservative estimate. Longer than 15-ish and you risk tissue damage; however, that risk can be mitigated by removing the clips/clamps for a few minutes to allow circulation to return before replacing the clips/clamps again.

Exactly! Thank you CM.

Oh, and the temperature of the room and your activities will also effect how the pins work on you. If you're in a cold room, your circulation won't be as great, so you'll probably have to take the pins off sooner. If you're doing something that's making your heart beat fast, like vigorous intercourse, you're going to be warmer.

So, keep in mind what you're doing and how warm/cold it is while using pins.

Just to expand on CM, the reason it's a "rough rule of thumb" is because it's dependent on how much circulation you block. As she says, if you stop most of the blood circulation to an area of skin, then you do risk tissue damage, so it's a good rule.

However, some pins (we call them pegs over here) and clamps are tighter than others! With extremely tight ones (that tend to leave bruises) I reduce the time to around 15 minutes tops. You can get some that grip quite softly, and they're good for photo shoots when you want a bit more time to wiggle the victim around to get the right sexy shot.

It also depends on blood pressure, heartrate and so on. Often you are accompanying the play with stuff that raises things like heartrate, body temperature (i.e. having sexy fun), but don't count on that too much. satindesire rightly pointed out that ambient temperature also has an impact.

Generally if you go with the 15-20 minute rule, you're pretty safe.

What I will generally do if I want them to stay on longer is ask my victim which one peg she would like removed. Then when she tells me, I take off that peg and put it on somewhere completely new. Rinse and repeat, you can keep someone safely pegged for quite a while (to the point of tears in my last session.)

From my personal experience, I can tolerate the pins much longer on my labia than any other part of my body. I have enjoyed them for as long as 45 minutes without any adverse effects.

I think good communication and common sense go a looooooong way in this realm!

Butterfly clips

I recommend, from personal experience, you use butterfly clips not clothes pegs.

15 minutes is a sensible limit. Worth watching out for tingling and numbness in your skin, and keeping an eye on marks that are left to guage what exactly works for you though. It's hard to be any more specific about these things, since everyone's skin is different, as are the pins they use.

I think you should disinfect the pins and the place you are placing the pins. I think it is not too safe anyway better do not play this way

I haven't done this, although wouldn't dream of using clothespins if the skin were broken in any way. But I'm not as much of a germophobe as some people I've met.

And wooden pins are dangerous I think. They can break and leave some small particles in the skin and then it will be hard to take out splinters and even puss can appear.

It would be even harder to explain to the medical staff how those splinters came to be in there ...

But if that's what you're worried about, plastic clothespins are available.

"But, Doc, I was just getting out of the shower, and I tripped and fell on my face and slid on the bare wood floor in the hall! And that's the truth!"

15-20 minutes?

Good Lord, that’s a long time.

Clothes Pins!

Wood clothes pins are the best Some of my most incredible orgasms have come during or following clothes pin play. Having clothes pins whipped off with a crop is fun in the play, the anticipation and the pinch as they pop free. Also, you can link a series of clothes pins together by a cord run through the center hole. When the pins are strategically placed, they can be pulled off one or two at a time or with a massive yank pulling the whole string free. The sensation is intense and can be exquisite!
