Clothes and stupid assumptions

After talking to a few people in the chat rooms, i realised that alot of people make stupid assumptions about others based entirely on what they like to wear. Its nothing new, but it just irritates me.

I say to someone that i'm wearing a corset and boots and they seem to assume that:

A) Im dressed up for some special occasion
B) Im dressed up for sex
C) Im lying

Can i not just wear clothes i like? Is that too much to ask?
I like wearing clothes that are a little out of the ordinary, theyre what i feel most comfortable in.

End of rant.

I admire your post.

I have a friend, who to all outward appearances, was the classic 'librarian', middle age, glasses, hair up. But still a very nice lady.

Had to stop by her house one day, she came to the door wearing a leather corset, with a short leather skirt, leather sandels with the straps up her calfs. Not nude at all, but very sexy.

She explained she just liked to dress like that when she was home alone. Wasn't embarrassed by it, at all.

ha, if someone actually has the interest in my to ask what i'm wearing i get filed under redneck hill billy country boy hic etc etc because i work for a living and i wear boots jeans and t shirts, sometimes flannel

*shrug* stereotypes are everywhere, but complaining about it doesn't really help anything, but making jokes to make the person who stereotyped you uncomfortable definitely will :D

Of course you can. Of course it isn't.

As a young punk rocker, about a million years ago, I was constantly hit on by respectable middle-aged men on the basis of similar assumptions. I just brushed it off as best I could, along with the responses of repressed idiots that wanted to beat me up.

On the other hand, you're missing out on so much if you ignore the erotic power of the clothes you do chose to wear - whether it's a corset and boots or a business suit. (and I never got hit on so much as when I first started to wear a suit and tie.) But you have to OWN that power - make 'em beg!
