just saw this movie for the first time tonight with lisa ... wow its amazing ... it is still shocking but a fantastic piece of film art

working on so many levels watching the film i can't believe that kubrick wasn't english

i know it was originally wrote by an english guy though so maybe that explains the humour of the film and the satire and irony that seemed very english to me

all that Penii stuff though girl.... YUCK!

Interesting of course though.

i think it shows how disgusting men are and why all women should be lesbians :p

Excellent Movie

I first saw this years ago when a friend of mine made me watch it in his basement... I've seen it several times since, and still think it's great. Not sure about your English comments, but definitely a movie worth watching.

:)

fine, the only thing good about REAL lesbians, not 55 year old truck driving overweight men, are the stories that they USED to tell. ;)

Great film, excellent soundtrack, but read the British edition of the book. Puts a whole new spin on the film (last chapter was 'missing' fro the American edition and reads completely differently). One of my favorite works, byt the way.

If you can get a copy with a 'glossery' at the back, that's a good way to read it, as I was getting bogged down in the verbage, and missed a lot of the context the first time through. At least knowing what some of the words are is a good start.

it was banned in england for a while also ... by kubrick himself infact they only were able to show it after kubrick died

i think its his best film ... there are some quite horrible scenes altough you don't see much at all but its still pretty shocking

i love the fast motion sex scene :)

It's one of my favorite movies.

Very thought provoking. Especially if you happen to be high.

Ahh, great movie. My favorite scene is when he is reading the bible and picturing himself whipping jesus. Puts me in the mood to enjoy some old milk-plus moloko vellocet.

Ouch!
I watched the movie and men are protrayed as pretty evil for the most part, but I think that the male of the species has some value in a relationship with a women, other than being the carpet.

Some men are not comfortable with intimacy and shy away from certain things that a woman would really like to do or try. There are men out there who are real good and have fun with the realtionships they are in.

I know that you did not mean to put all of us into one boat, anyway, I hope not. It would be nice if all relationships were even and equal in all respects, but the human equation will always prevent such a thing from happening. That 'randomness' is what makes life interesting.

Hmmm. I started out with one thought in my head and now lost track of what the fuck I was trying to say. Oh well.:D :rose:

You have to look at the time the film was made, where it was made and who made it.

Then think about why things are the way they are in the film

2001 is a better film. Its a masterpiece and still one of the most daring releases ever. There are only 40 minutes of dialogue in a movie almost 3 hours long. Yet it keeps you right there, Its narrative challenges you but doesnt try to intimidate.

It holds up perfectly with time. Easily one of the top 5 films ever. Ever.

Orange is very good. Its pulpy, but with a message, if a bit obvious at times. The imagery is shifted enough to let it become an allegory.

I'd agree it is 'British'. Same as 1984 is 'British'. Kubrick is kind of an Honary Briton though.

Stangely, to me anyway, Clockwork Orange is considered a masterwork in France. Just seems funky to me.

exactly the film isn't a male bashing film ... its about society and hypocrisies about violence and why people are victims

MM i do agree with you that 2001 is one of his most fantastic films i guess its pretty hard to compare the two ... maybe im saying clockwork orange is the best because i've just seen it ... i guess if i see 2001 next week i might be saying that is the best (i have seen it many times) :)

and yeah i do think kubrick was an honoree brit :) although i dont think he ever forgave us after the way the british press reacted to a clockwork orange

I don't know of anything that compares to the scene cut in 2001 where the ape throws the bone into the air and it becomes a space station.....from tools to space, it pretty muchsums up mankinds progress in about ten seconds.
