Clean sheets?

Hi peeps,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me out here as I am at a bit of a loss and it's not the kind of question I want to ask my Mum.

I've got a black cotton quilt cover that was quite expensive, and now we have a new bed and new sheets to go along with it, I want to use the old black cover on the bed in the spare room.

The only problem however, is that there are, well.. stains  on the cover that I can't seem to get rid of. I've tried soaking the quilt and using a laundry detergent especially for black clothes, but they won't come out (pun not intended).

Can anyone out there help? Is there some kind of neat trick to getting them off?

Cheers :)

Try Goo Gone.

Honestly, I know..the last thing you'd want to put on ANY fabric. But seriously, it works. I use it on my tee shirts at work when I accidently spill popcorn oil or butter on them. (nothing gets those stains out..)

This is what you need to do:

Spray the Goo Gone on the stain throughly and leave it on for about 5-10 minutes. Between 2-3 mins, spray a little more on so it is completely saturated.

Next, get some water and a cloth. Moisten the cloth and rub off as much of the Goo Gone you can off the stain. (You don't need to scrub or anything, just as much as you can.)

Then throw the cover in the wash under WARM water. Then dry as desired.

Hopefully that works : (

If your not sure what Goo Gone is, it comes in this bottle:

Thank you !!! thank you!!!
I'm happy to see this post ... we have VERY dark linen on the bed ... and as clean as I am ... I see whatever hubby leaves behind! (and it's not by my helping ... grrr)

Your safest bet is to have it professionally cleaned. Cleaners have special formulas for different types of stains, and should be able to get it out without destroying or fading the fabric.

Second to that, do some research on solutions for protein-based stains (if I'm correct in assuming these are cum/bodily fluid stains). It looks like you want to use something with an enzyme that dissolves protein and avoid heat. Meat tenderizer appears to be one option, but you should also be able to find other solutions via google and laundry products that say they work for things like blood stains. Shout Advanced stain remover is one such product that works really well for protein and set-in stains. I don't know if you have it over there, but I'm sure you have something similar.

Oh, and I'd say do NOT use the Goo Gone suggested above! While that works great for oil, wax, gum, and a few other things, it's unlikely to work on bodily fluids, and could give you a new problem with your cover.

One method I've used that gets alot of different type of stains out is plain old boiling water. Boil some up in a kettle, lay the stained item in the sink or tub, depending on the size, and then slowly pour the boiling water onto the stain from up high. (careful not to splash yourself with the water). I've knocked blood out, chocolate stains even pomegranate stains.

Just make sure your item is colorfast.

soaking it in oxyclean could help as well (but start with a test piece to make sure it doesn't affect the material).
