"That she is. But I have my reasons for being here." Kjersten took a seat on the edge of the bed, drawing Fiona into a careful embrace. "Thank you... I might be lost without Rakkar, but I know I can't join him yet. If only for my little girl's sake."

"To love intensely is what makes us human. You'll always feel his loss." Fiona said softly as Kjersten hugged her gently. "But you should know that he wouldn't want you to lose yourself to that sorrow. You'll be happy again one day, perhaps even find someone else who wants to stay at your side."

"I don't need any of that. We'll finish Barbarossa and rebuild. And then I can focus on what's important." Kjersten sat back and sighed.

"Look at your Da and the life that he's led." Fiona said softly as Kjersten let out a long sigh and sat back. "A little girl he had to raise after losing his wife. And then he rekindled what had been lost with Kjotva. It's possible."

"I don't want to think about it," Kjersten told her firmly, but softened once more. "Don't worry about me. We're going to worry about Kayla right now. She's the one most in danger now."

"She's also a Ghis. They are notoriously hard to kill." Fiona said as she thought about her own experiences with Sam.

"But not impossible. If Barbarossa wants to continue disrupting things up here, he'll strike at her to cause the most efficient damage. He could destroy the leadership of Norway and the spirit of Scotland at the same time."

"I'm sure Sam has her well guarded. She is one of his most adored relatives." Fiona said softly. "And I'm sure your father has had a part in that protection as well."

"Considering Sam sent a dragon Rider to protect her, I suppose so. But I want to request something of you, when you heal..." Kjersten took her hand. "I need someone to find me a trustworthy Rider to come to Sweden to stay. Someone who will protect my daughter without any reservations, and be able to whisk her away should the worst happen. I just need that bit of security."

"THEre are a few that come to mind that I would trust in an instant. I will write to Dmitri and Xenia. They might be ready to settle and stop traveling now hat Rory is taking care of the dragons in the north of Scotland." Fiona said, thinking about that request.

"I'd be grateful for the last resort. I don't expect Barbarossa to stop his idiocy until he's dead or dethroned." Kjersten rose with a sigh. "I imagine Sam will show up before too long if he hears you've been wounded."

"He's a busy man, Kjersten. I understand that." She said softly, knowing that he had a war to wage. "I'd be happy with a simple letter at this point."

"Sam isn't a man for words, you must know," Kjersten smiled slightly. "He's a man of action. He'll come check on you himself."

"I'm sure he will even if I wish he wouldn't." Fiona said with a soft laugh as she started to eat her breakfast. "And get some rest yourself. You are safe."

"For now," Kjersten nodded, giving Fiona a small smile before stepping out. Fiona was left to her own devices for the whole day, though she was informed that the fleet would be moving the following day toward Denmark, Kjersten with them.

Fiona was incredibly sore as she dressed herself in her armor. One of the soldiers had repaired the hole made by the assassin's knife. Once she was ready, she used Invah's help to climb into the saddle and get herself situated.

"We'll patrol the harbor ahead of them. I want to make sure that nothing is left to chance."

"I won't break, Invah. And I'll tell you if I need a break." Fiona said, using her safety harness for good measure.

Invah sighed and set off, taking her maneuvers more gently than usual. As the ships set out, they scouted ahead and around most of the day, until Invah forced Fiona to go in early to rest at both Invah's behest and Kjersten's. It seemed the queen of Sweden was looking after her now.

Fiona slept deeply as Invah and Kjersten insisted that she get some rest. She was sore and bruised, healing from what had happened but missing Sam terribly. She had no idea if her letters had made it but she assumed someone had sent a rider to tell him what had happened to her.

Letters had been sent overseas to the isles, but it wasn't until the ships landed in Denmark that another dragon appeared on the horizon. Fiona wasn't healed much by the time she was called out one morning as a dragon approached. Almost immediately as she emerged on the deck as the ship was being moored, she recognized Gaiann.

Fiona didn't dare to think that Sam was actually there as she saw Gaiann. However, as she carefully moved closer to the railing, she saw Kayla Ghis hugging her nephew tightly.

Sam completely dwarfed Kayla, fully enfolding her in his arms as he was both glad to see her and he knew she needed the support. He greeted everyone similarly until he saw Fiona. Stepping away from the group, she could see he was in his full rider armor and he probably hadn't slept in the night.

"Fiona," Sam spoke up, hurrying to her side. He hesitated a moment, knowing she'd been wounded, before he carefully drew her in.

"I'm alright, Sam." Fiona whispered to him as her carefully drew her in. "Just a little wound and some bruises. Nothing that will keep me down for very long."

"I didn' expect ya t'have t'actually save someone," Sam muttered, drawing back for just a moment before kissing her.
