"My Gran loved 'is poetry. We 'ave all 'is books in th'library at th'keep. I practically learned t'read on some o' his children's poems."

"He wrote one about me." Fiona said with a smile as she looked at Sam. "He called me the winter child. Cool blue eyes and sunny hair."

"Climbing trees t' touch the sky an' steal the stars," Sam added, knowing the poem almost by heart. He had a bit of a warm smile, small as it was, telling her that he was really starting to relax.

"He always told me it was possible to touch the clouds if I tried hard enough. I truly believed him. Some days I feel like I still could." Fiona said with a small smile. "I miss him terribly. I wish that my Da would have listened to reason and let me live with him."

"I'm sorry it didn' work out tha' way," Sam murmured. "But good things'll come yer way, I know it." He then offered her a little smirk. "Tha' is, after I catch you fair an' square."

"Then you'll get to see what I have of yours." Fiona said with a grin back his direction, laughing softly to herself.

"Y'still don' want t'tell me?" Sam asked with a raised eyebrow. "Y'should tell me, 'r I migh' jus' chase you 'ome." He would do it, though he wouldn't actually capture her even if he caught up.

"Nope. I'm not ready to tell you." Fiona murmured as he threatened to chase her all the way home. "Like you could catch me, Ghis. You haven't done so successfully yet."

Being so close to her, Sam was able to just catch Fiona's arms and pin her to the nearest tree. "How about now?" He asked with a more defined smirk. His grip wasn't too tight, but he wasn't going to lose her.

Fiona gasped as she found herself suddenly pinned to a tree, the smirking Samuel Ghis so close to her that she could hear him breathing. She slowly returned his smile, laughing softly.

"Sorry, Ghis. I'm still not about to tell you my secret." Fiona murmured, her eyes bright in the moonlight.

"But I caught you, didn' I? Tha' was the deal." Sam's voice grew a little softer as he was so close. His grip moved to her wrists, trapping them on either side of her head on the broad trunk.

"Still not going to tell." Fiona said in a breathless tone as he trapped her wrists on either side of her head. "I'll say this once, Samuel...either you kiss me now or we're going to regret the lost moment."

The only thing that surprised Sam more than what she said in that moment, was the fact that he didn't hesitate. His mind had no control as his body reacted naturally and his arms wrapped about her middle and his lips pressed to her own with absolute confidence, demanding so much from her own.

Fiona gasped as he actually took her challenge, kissing her as if his life depended on it. She would never have guessed that Samuel Ghis had such a warmth as he demanded everything from her with a simple press of his lips against her own. She let her eyes close, returning the moment with the same warmth and passion.

When their lips finally parted, Sam didn't pull back. Instead, his forehead came to rest against her own while his eyes remained closed. The world seemed to narrow in around them. Sam's lips had tasted of the sweet mead he'd been drinking at dinner, and he smelled of the forest and worn leather. His embrace was solid, but not too tight. It was almost as if he was cradling her against his chest.

His dark eyes finally opened and he looked down at her with a neutral expression, not sure what to think or do, or what she thought of him now. Had he gone too far by taking her challenge seriously? Or was giving into his hidden attraction to her one of the best decisions he'd ever made?

"No regrets." Fiona said in a soft voice. "We're not going to deal with worries and regrets. It always ruins a relationship."

She had no idea what to make of Samuel's stoic expression, but he still held her so tenderly that she found it hard to believe that he hadn't been effected too.

Sam found he couldn't come up with anything to say at first, so his answer was another kiss. One hand rose from her waist to lay tenderly across her back, and she could feel him relax like he was letting go of some secret, years-old tension. "No regrets," he finally whispered.

His second kiss made her toes curl. Fiona let out a soft whimper as he gently cradled her back, relaxing against her. When the kiss was over, she let out a soft sigh, her eyes half lidded as he murmured back her sentiments.

"This is dangerous, Sam." She said softly.

"I chase murderers fer a livin', Fiona," he told her with a slightly-dazed smile. "I don' mind. An' didn' you jus' say 'no worries?"

Fiona nodded as he grinned down at her, telling her that he caught murderers for a living. "No regrets." She agreed in a soft voice, relaxing in his grip.

Sam welcomed her in for one more, much longer kiss before he let her go, taking her hand instead so they could continue on their way to take her home. he was a little overwhelmed with all the thoughts and feelings racing through his mind, but he knew for certain that he felt better than he had for some time.

Fiona was overwhelmed with the feelings that Sam was causing in her belly. She wanted more and she knew that they needed to stop as he kissed her one last time, letting it linger before he took her hand to continue the walk home. She didn't say anything as they walked, but she could feel the way that Sam seemed so confident and relaxed in the moment. She had no idea what this would lead to but she knew that something special had occurred between them.

When they drew near the cabin, Sam paused to meet Fiona's eyes again, taking both her hands now. "I s'pose I ought t'say goodnight an' get 'ome before I overstay my welcome, aye?" He couldn't help that little hint of a smile. He'd smiled more in one day than he had for the past year altogether.

"You wouldn't overstay your welcome, but I'm not sure I could explain you away to Will." Fiona said as he gave her another rare smile. "Or that you could explain me away to the rest of your family. Trust me, Kell already knows about this. He must."

"I doubt 'e'd find out this fast. But even if 'e does find out, 'e knows when t'keep a secret. An' besides, my family's been rootin' fer you since this whole thing started. An' y'brought Invah out. I don' think they'd be too bothered."
