"Kell told me," Brogan nodded. "He an' I are goin' t' end Kate's involvement with this. 'Er only concerns should be 'erself an' family righ' now. Tha's why she came here; t' relax. Sam isn't goin' to ruin that."

"That wolf ruins all my surprises." Julia said with a soft smile towards her husband as he informed her that he already knew about Kate. "She's wanted this for so long. We will all work together to make sure that she is healthy and happy and brings a beautiful baby into this world."

"That probably ought t'start with sendin' 'er to Karn 'r Jan an' Luna." Brogan reached up to lay a gentle hand on Julia's cheek. "'Ave I been awake enough lately t'tell you yer beautiful?" He asked in his usual low, lovely tone when it was just the two of them.

"You tell me every night before bed." Julia said with a soft smile for her husband as he reached up and touched her cheek. "What am I going to do with you, Brogan Ghis? I promised Kitty that I would care for you and look at the mess that we've made of things."

"We haven't made a mess, darlin'," Brogan ensured her. "We jus' inherited 'er troubles in th'form of a bunch of stubborn children. No' far off from what she 'ad t'deal with when I first took th'throne."

"I thought I had you all better and then that assassin came and almost took you from me again." Julia said, knowing that she was more deeply haunted about her husband's near miss than she let on. "I thought I had lost you when I saw all that blood."

Brogan's brows stitched in concern, and he held her just a little tighter and kissed her once more. "I've 'ad worse, love, an' y'got me through tha' too," he murmured softly. He'd nearly bled himself dry that last time when he'd escaped from Wick. Even if he were older and weaker, he still had a hardy constitution and it took a lot to lay him low.

"I know, but you didn't have this illness back then." Julia said softly. "I couldn't help Heather when she was ill and lost her sight and I'm afraid that one day I won't be able to help you either."

"We can' know what'll happen... so I'm content t'enjoy the now," Brogan told her with a smile, sounding a bit like his mother in that moment. She rarely worried about the distant future, using her energy instead for the present and the near future of her family.

"I know, love." Julia said as her husband smiled at her, charming her with that boyish grin that never seemed to age. "I have to remind myself of that."

The two spent some much-needed time together that evening, and the next morning, Brogan took the time to have a long talk with Sam, then with Rho after him. Meanwhile, Kell was missing til about noon. At lunch, he reappeared at Kate's side without a word.

"Where have you been all morning?" Kate asked her mate as he silently slipped next to her, kissing her cheek as she looked over her daily paperwork that was delivered from Edinburgh. "Da had a stern talking to with Sam. He looked as dark as a thunder cloud when he left the keep."

"I'll tell you later when we're alone," Kell murmured, letting her know it was either something of great importance or danger. "Sam won't be happy with me when I get back tonight."

Kate turned and looked at Kell as he said that, a slight frown on her face as she considered her mate for a long moment. "What did you do, Kell?"

"I'll tell you later," Kell repeated as if it were nothing, taking a drink from his mug. His training as an assassin before they'd met had made him quite the secret-keeper and there was little she could do to make him tell til they were alone.

"Khelt." Kate growled in warning as he told her that he would tell her later.

Her mate would sometimes infuriate her by keeping secrets. He always said that it was for her own good and she always forgave him, but it was frustrating.

Kell gave her a kind smile despite her warning, and he leaned in to kiss her cheek. "There's a reason I won't say it out loud, love. Just trust me. I've never kept anything from you for long, have I?"

"No." Kate said as he leaned over and kissed her cheek with that king, warm smile of his. "You never keep them for long."

She leaned against his side and wrapped her arms around him. She needed him close lately, giving her the strength that she didn't seem to have anymore. She was tired and she wondered if she wasn't doing too much.

"Do me a favor while I'm gone," Kell murmured, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "Go see Luna. Just for the sake of my worry." That told her he knew something was wrong with her, and by how careful her parents were with her lately, they probably knew too.

"I just need some sleep, Kell." She said softly as he wrapped his warm arm around her shoulders and held her tightly. "But I suppose I can make some time to talk to Luna. I know you will hound me until I do because you worry."

"Yes I will. I'll even carry you there myself if I have to. In fact, I might drop you off and come get you when I'm done, just to make sure you do it." Kell nuzzled his face lovingly against her neck, a habit he'd had for some time, but had become more pronounced lately.

"Kell, I'm not a child anymore." She said as he threatened to drop her off at Luna's and pick her up when he was done with his tasks. "I am perfectly capable of seeing a healer on my own."

She let out a sigh as her mate nuzzled against her throat, marking her with his scent as he had done as often as he could since they were married. His cheek brushed against the secret mark that she carried on her shoulder and a blush broke out on her cheeks. That night had been one of the most beautiful of her entire life.

Kell could only chuckle at her, his arm lowering to wrap about her waist before lunch began. He'd never been afraid to show his love and absolute loyal to her in any situation. Even in court in Edinburgh, he wasn't afraid to wrap an arm around Kate when she needed support, or to put a lord in his place when he was pressing her too harshly.

"I love you, Kell." Kate said with a grin as he wrapped his arm around her waist and drew her even closer. "To the moon and back."

Fiona had never known kindness like Kell had shown to her. He had kept every promised that he had made, getting her the inheritance that her grandfather had left behind. She was sitting on a trail in the woods, waiting for Will to come and meet her. All of the money was going to him, to make sure that he had a home and a good life for a long time to come.

The sound of hooves was soon apparent, and Will appeared on the trail on Volgern's back looking a little bit worried that he might've been followed. Sam's men had been keeping an eye on the house.
