Clarence Thomas sold his childhood home to GOP donor Harlan Crow and never disclosed it. The justice's 94-year-old mom still lives there

If Ginsberg had done this republicans would be out for blood. He should be removed from the court.

it doesn't get much clearer than this:

Under federal law, an employee of the government, including the Supreme Court, is supposed to report any real estate transaction worth more than a thousand dollars.
even if they can't 'prove' anything regarding the nature of the billionaire's connection with thomas, the above clearly states the illegality of this particular non-disclosure.

But when Justice Clarence Thomas and his family sold his childhood home in 2014, the sale never appeared on a disclosure form, ProPublica reported on Thursday, nor did he reveal the identity of the buyer: Republican mega-donor Harlan Crow.

Citing a state tax filing and a deed to the property — a home and two nearby vacant lots in Savannah, Georgia — ProPublica said the transaction netted $133,363 for Thomas, his mother, and his now-deceased brother.

corruption, corruption, corruption
Conservative judicial activist Leonard Leo arranged for the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas to be paid tens of thousands of dollars for consulting work just over a decade ago, specifying that her name be left off billing paperwork, according to documents reviewed by The Washington Post.

In January 2012, Leo instructed the GOP pollster Kellyanne Conway to bill a nonprofit group called the Judicial Education Project and use that money to pay Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the documents show. The same year, the Judicial Education Project filed a brief to the Supreme Court in a landmark voting rights case.

Leo, an adviser to the Judicial Education Project and a key figure in a network of nonprofits that has worked to support the nominations of conservative judges, told Conway that he wanted her to “give” Ginni Thomas “another $25K,” the documents show. He emphasized that the paperwork should have “No mention of Ginni, of course.”
The arrangement reveals that Leo, a longtime Federalist Society leader and friend of the Thomases, has functioned not only as an ideological ally of Clarence Thomas’s but also has worked to provide financial remuneration to his family. And it shows Leo arranging for the money to be drawn from a nonprofit that soon would have an interest before the court.

In a statement, Mr Crow's office did not address the payments made to cover Mr Martin's tuition fees directly, but said the billionaire has "long been passionate about the importance of quality education and giving back to those less fortunate".

"It's disappointing that those with partisan political interests would try to turn helping at-risk youth with tuition assistance into something nefarious or political,"

So a boy who a US Supreme Court Justice is bringing up as his own son is 'at-risk' and 'less fortunate'.

WSJ columnist James Taranto does a thorough job of debunking the ProPublica article. ProPublica implies that Justice Thomas never disclosed his interest in the house where his mother lived. What the self-described agenda-driven publication failed to note is that it wasn’t required. They erroneously imply that the ”remaining property” (ie. the house occupied by his mother) is part of the Savannah properties sold to Crow. It’s not. It’s not even in the same county. Yet the Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, one of ProPublica’s “experts”—wrote a letter sourced by ProPublica falsely claiming that and accuses Justice Thomas of deceptively disclosing (rather than failing to disclose) the property’s disposition.

The Truth About Clarence Thomas’s Disclosures

He reported carefully on his inherited real estate. ProPublica’s reporting was slipshod and incurious.

Information pertaining to a personal residence is exempted from reporting, unless the property generates rental income,” the filing instructions say on page 33. Nor was there any requirement to disclose the ownership of the other two Savannah properties after the houses were demolished. Who wants to rent an empty lot in Savannah?

When an asset isn’t sold but stops being reportable—in this case because it is no longer capable of generating rental income—page 50 of the filing instructions directs the filer to “insert ‘(Y)’ after the asset description in Column A and leave Columns B-D blank, or include an explanatory note in Part VIII.” Justice Thomas did exactly that for the Savannah rental properties in 2010, and for the Liberty County property in 2015. The latter footnote reads simply: “Line 1: The asset listed on line 1 does not receive any rental income for this property.”

You know what these attacks on Thomas and the other justices are all about don't you?

Yeah, because the sale of a house to a billionaire is THE ONLY reason perp Clarence Thomas is under scrutiny.

👉 BabyBoobs and Chobby 🤣

He’s also being scrutinized by left wing fanatics for his friendship with someone they don’t like, and for raising a great nephew as his own.

He's being scrutinized, as all justices are, because the cases they preside over, have very real consequences.

I think there is growing political pressure for SCOTUS to create a code of ethics for itself or to have an independent body do so. Thomas being friends with a Nazi fuck notwithstanding

Harlan Crow is not a “Nazi” and you know it. What is true however is that one of the lefties leading the scrutiny of Justice Thomas is racist Senator “Whites Only” Whitehorse.

These are racist attacks by the left on a black Justice they hate because he is a conservative. In their mind he's only allowed to think in one way, their way.

I guess owning a museum's worth of Nazi paraphernalia doesn't mean one is necessarily a Nazi, but it is only fair to ask what the appeal is for him.

Are his speaker guests like Bill Clinton, Beto O’Rourke, and Hakim Jeffries Nazis too? If not, what were they doing visiting Harlan Crow’s museum?

Crow is a collector of historical artifacts. He’s got a massive collection of books, manuscripts, statues, paraphernalia of all kinds. He’s a historical preservationist intent on retaining books, manuscripts, paintings, statues, and other memorabilia - great, good, bad, and evil- to help future generations understand the past.

His archive and library houses roughly 15,000 books and 5,000 manuscripts. His walls are adorned with original paintings by Winston Churchill, Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy and Mr. Crow’s friend George W. Bush. (Not displayed are two paintings by Adolf Hitler, which are archived, along with other items pertaining to Nazi-era Germany. which he holds for historical research).

His collection also includes a statue of Harriet Tubman and an extensive volume of abolitionists material, a framed letter from Thomas Jefferson, a lapidary quotation by Tocqueville, a commissioned painting of Martin Luther King Jr., a painting of the Wright Brother, a handwritten manuscript of Abraham Lincoln, and much, much more.

There’s a walking path are statues of 20th-century communist leaders: Vladimir Lenin, Joseph Stalin, Béla Kun, Ho Chi Minh, Mao Zedong, Nicolae Ceaușescu, Fidel Castro, Felix Dzerzhinsky and others that all once stood in communist countries. There are also artifacts from the ugly American internment of Japanese during WWII. History is what was. Artifacts from the past help us remember and learn.

It’s a museum and a place where people can discuss history and politics in a civil manner. The pro choice moderate Republican’s guest speakers have included Republicans as well as prominent Democrats such as Bill Clinton, fellow Texan Beto O’Rourke, and House Minority Leader Hakim Jeffries. They’ve seen the collection. Are they Nazi sympathizers?

Gee? Who paid for his “son’s” education

Not some random poor “at risk” kid, The “kid” exists as Clarence’s SON! The excuse is no no no he’s my grandson (or whatever) so we don’t have to declare it?? Criminal thinking!!

Isn’t Trump’s CFO going to jail for some shit like that ? Kids education being paid for?

U$C ‘s waterpolo coach ? Oh? Not in jail yet

Justice’s wives making $$ off their hubbey’s positions??? Ummmm … declare it!! See if it passes a smell test!!

Congress needs to write some goddamn laws for the Justices. Balance of Power!! The Court is apparently above the law and without the morals to do the right thing

Can’t impeach the Justices? Congress can investigate and do their job! Write laws!!

Side note?? Emoluments needs some ticking teeth. “They paid Trump’s business, not Trump?” BULLSHIT!!

Got lawyers or the Supreme Court ? You are above the law!

Same goes for Politicians being subpoenaed!!
Fuck the Republicans if their subpoenas should be “honored”

Actually, Congress can impeach SCOTUS justices. No chance of a conviction with this Senate, but...

I know .., but the Retrumplikans don’t have the balls to do that

A MAN would step down

A Minn Senator stepped down for FAR less

“Justice” Thomas made it quite clear that he could be bought when he stated that he didn’t feel the SCJ job was worth the salary.

He obviously felt he deserved to have his salary supplemented with “gifts” from billionaires, etc.

Such a fucking disgrace.

SAD!!!

Come on, Boomer, you know the difference between seeing something and owning it.

BabyBoobs can “explain away” the NAZI obsession, but not the fact that Harlan Crow had a Supreme Court “Justice” in his pocket.

SAD!!!

Chances are the contract includes a provision that allows mommy to continue residing in the home.
