I think thats how you spell it. Anyways, my gf just found out she has clamydia. She got it from her ex-bf, they broke up 10 months ago, and ive been with her for the past 5 months. Im assuming that i have it too, so im gonna get myself checked tomorrow. Im just wondering if anyone can give me some info on it, symptoms, side effects, how you get it, the usual. Any websites you can recommend i check out? Im just looking for some info on it, thats all.

I believe it's chlamydia, although I'm not sure.

If your girlfriend has it and you've had unprotected sexual contact, chances are you have it too. From what I understand females are much more likely to exhibit symptoms of the disease than males, and even many females show no symptoms at all.

Beyond that all I can tell you is it's fairly common and completely curable, and one of the standard tests they give every time I go to the gyno. Smart of you to get tested, as I think you need a prescription antibiotic to get rid of it.

all I can say is get it checked and over with now, cause it will lead to kidney stones in men if left untreated. The medication used to treat chlamydia is a very powerful antibiotic. The only side affect you should feel is a slight upset stomach. As to how you get it? It's as easy as catching the flu.

It's very common. You may have no symptoms or you may have some topical symptoms. It is not harmful to you, though it can cause pelvic inflammation in women if it is not treated, which can lead to infertility. You simply go to your doctor/GU clinic, tell them you've been exposed, and they'll give you a little bottle of antibiotics. You can't drink or have sex while you are on the course, which lasts for 10 days, as far as I recall. then you're all clear!!

And do take the tablets with food or they can make you feel nauseous...

don't worry about it!!

It's not wise to give false "advice"!!! Many times people are unaware they have this disease until they gain severe symptoms or are in for a common check up! If left untreated for a long period of time, Chlamydia can be very damaging!

Tiggs---Thanks for supplying the link to info.

Chlamydia is a bacterial infection that infects about 4 million Americans per year. In 75% of cases there are no symptoms. Chlamydia can infect the genitals, anus, or throat. If there are symptoms, they can include changes in vaginal secretions, lower abdominal pain, abnormal vaginal bleeding; for men--urethral discharge, pain when urinating or urethral irritation. Diagnosis of chlamydia is done by cervical smear (similar to pap) for women, and examination of discharge from men. Treatment is done with antibiotics for 10-14 days. Afterwards, another test must be performed to ensure that the infection has passed.
Chlamydia is spread only through sexual contact. The bacteria does not live outside of the body, so you cannot get it by sitting on a tiolet or swimming in a pool.
It is very important to be treated for chlamydia since it can cuase infertility in BOTH men and women.

No prob. Everyone here was telling this guy what he already knew and stated himself, but no one was providing INFO on symptoms and facts.

well

Id have to say go get checked like you are allready planning on doing so
By the way things like herpes, chlamydia, gonnorea etc etc...
Can be transmitted by oral sex i think with atleasts herpes that includes kissing...
but with chlamydia antibiotics are in order to clear it off
and of you do not do so you have a rather good chance youll develope serious problems in the future...

By the way as a little side note i think its about 1/4 of the people in california alone curently has and/ or will have an STD and most of them wont really even be avare of it untill they transmit it to someone else...
And just because a disease is asymptomatic does not mean that you can not transmit it to someone else...

So people please be carefull whom you sleep with and/ or
mave such "contact" with... the only real absolutely sure form of
protection from those things is abstinense... but
asides from me there is propably only 1 or 2 other individuals on the planet willing to go for that (not counting on nuns etc...)
