Wow, not even a chuckle? Tough room.

Funny story, though. Last year I had a couple of friends visiting from France, my British friend and her French husband, and they wanted to get "the American experience", so I took them to this old 50s style diner, Hubcaps. The walls are lined with classic Americana stuff - American Graffiti photos, hot rods, rock n' roll, etc. - and there's even a jukebox at the end of our booth.

We order some malts and talk for a bit. Pretty soon, Don't Stop Believing comes on, and I start humming along to it. I look over and the people in the booth in front of us are quietly singing along, too. And then I hear the people in the booth behind us singing along. We all look around at each other, and the next thing you know, there's a dozen people spontaneously breaking out into the song's chorus like it was an episode of Glee (minus the autotune, thank God).

My friends are laughing and have no idea what to make of this except that it's awesome. Afterwards, I tell them that if there was anything that I'd like for them to take away from their trip that they could say is distinctly American, it was that diner and rock n' roll; no matter who you are or where you come from, rock n' roll has the magical power to bring people together. I imagine that this happens in other parts of the world (it has to, right?), but around here it's part of the culture, and I love it.

I think at this point, my target audience is people who I hope laugh at my jokes. Glad to see it worked with someone! And honestly, the original post was just a clever thought. If there's a girl who likes it and wants to chat, bonus! For the most part, though, I was just being silly.

It was interesting. I don't see anything silly! *chuckles* no need to feel self-conscious! Rock n roll works everywhere... What else?
Not gonna say "purpose of living- just to find emotion"?? :)

I wish I were there! I bet it was really fun...

When the chorus hit, Neil Patrick Harris came bursting through the front door to a wave of glitter falling from the ceiling, spot lights, and pyrotechnics.

Well... maybe I'm exaggerating a bit. But not by much.

Seriously though, it was awesome.
