The problem with this is that, stating medical studies, performed by American doctors, who are circumcised themselves, and male circumcision, being a billion dollar industry in America; would leave an initiative for the promotion of circumcision. There have been almost no or very few studies in America, showing the benefits of intact anatomy or the absolute negative that is circumcision. Yet there is almost a continual stream of circumcision literature making absurd claims that are quickly debunked.

There are also few studies done out of cultures that dont practice genital mutilations because they don't have an agenda to push it.

Circumcision is a problem looking for an answer.

I can tell you that the American Medical Association sponsored a research project to quantify the pain levels and to evaluate the pain response to the different methods of pain relief. Their finding was that no method currently in use eliminates the pain and that the only acceptable method was subcutaneous ring block. All other methods fell short of acceptable.


The problem with assessing pain in babies is that they can't say "That hurts!" and they have to rely on indicators of pain such as facial grimmacing, heart rate, respiration rate and serum levels. Those are not really accurate as far as nailing down the pain a baby feels adn quantifying it. It's really not known what level the child feels at any particular indicator level.

The hideous part is that maybe 4% of doctors will use subcutaneous ring block at any time in their careers. This could actually be much lower and most doctors use no pain reliever whatsoever.

No, there is no such thing as a painless circumcision.

His foreskin was not growing with him? I'm sorry to say but there was probably nothing wrong with your son. He most likely had a non-retractitle foreskin which was perfectly normal for his age. What exactly did the doctor tell you?
 
I have neither the time nor patience to read this entire thread, but I am uncut and I feel that unless it is absolutely necessary, it should not be done. Just teach the damn kids how to use soap and water like my father did.

In North America perhaps. There are plenty of women and men in Europe and other places very happy with the way their partner's or their own willies look.

And cosmetic reasons are no justification for removing a part of another person's genitalia without their consent.

Personally, I disagree with the medical reasons put forth, but at least they are a basis for arguing about the legitimacy of the procedure. How can forced genital mutilation for aesthetic reasons ever be a good or ethical thing?

yeah I totally agree

we had another 30 page thread on this topic several months back - and did get fairly heated -

The one thing that did surprise me is , religion apart , the US is alone in routinely practising circumcision as a norm - a far greater % of boys get it done for no other reason than Dad had it done and it is the way it is.

The arguments regarding health are spurious - as for every pro health argument there is an equally valid negative health argument - and at the end of the day normal hygene will be ok and come on ladies we guys do know that we need to keep the old chap clean - just as women do wash their bits on a regular basis - I just cant understand that argument that you need to perform a circumsision in order to remind young boys to waqsh now and again

80% of European men do not get there old boys cut - and things seem to be ticking along ok

I'm snipped. My son isn't. He is two so he doesn't have much of an opinion yet. All I know is that I seem to be able to go much longer during sex than what is considered "normal".

Call me undecided on this one. But I don't think it should be done as a routine procedure. If requested for cultural reasons, okay. Otherwise no.
 
To be or not to be...circ?

I can tell you that if it's necessary later in life, it's not the most pleasant experience. I know of some who had the procedure and were up and walking around without a problem in less than 3 days.

However, when my time came it was a different story. I experienced complications after surgery...the drugs were an absolute gift! But it took 2 weeks before I was able to put on a pair of jeans. I was in my mid 20's by this time.

But don't fret! I survived and everything works great! :)

If ever the time comes where my partner and I would have to make this decision...I would say yes! to circ based on my own experience.
