Circumcision....discuss?

Do they put some kind of local anesthetic on it before snipping? Anyone know?

I can only speak for where I practice and in my institution it depends on the obsterician doing the circ. Most don't use it (the anesthetic)simply because it's a timed medicine and since they are never sure when they might make it to the nursery, it doesn't get used.

Some use an injectable local. It truthfully varies on the ob and their mood.

I thought this thread was going to be about whether or not Jesus' foreskin ascended to heaven when he did.

There hasn't been a good argument about that since the 1500s.

Well, thank you for almost causing my mind to almost implode considering that.

My son was not done as an infant

but due to the fact that his foreskin was not growing with him, he had to be done at the age of 5

most horrible thing I have ever had to deal with.

If my second was a boy it would had been done in the hospital.

Thank God I had a girl

OUCH... poor kid, I had mine done right after I was born, and couldn't walk for a year.

I'm thinking of going in for a tuck here lately myself...I hear it can take years off of your appearance.

Parents must sign an informed consent before a circ can be performed (at least in the U.S.)
No MD will perform the procedure without that signed piece of paper in the chart

This is the same in Canada.

After seeing my share of infections and complications from an unkept, uncircumcized penis I opted to have all of my boys circ'd. I do not regret it in the least.

So you would have a permanent, body altering surgery performed on your sons because you knew someone that was incapable of basic hygiene? You punished your son's because of someone else's incompetence?

The presence of his foreskin had nothing to do with his lack of hygiene. If you dont practice basic hygiene you are bound to get an infection.

By your logic, you should have your son's hands cut off as well. You wouldn't want them to have to bear the burden of washing their hands, would you?

Only bad* people would allow their sons to be mutilated like that. I'll always hold them in contempt.

*meaning that they don't realize it's a mistake, and would do it again if given the chance.

(excluding the rare times when it's absolutely necessary)

Where I used to work, most used a local topical xylocaine first, then injected the novocaine
Those babies never cried

It doesn't make it bigger, or smaller so it doesn't really matter.

I don't know what it takes for someone to understand that cutting a part of your body off wouldn't make it smaller.

The foreskin isn't a small piece of skin. The average adult male foreskin is 15 square inches. Circumcision removes some of the penis length and penis circumference because its double-layered wrapping of loose and usually overhanging foreskin which is now missing, making the circumcised penis truncated and thinner than a full-sized penis.

lol

I know I spelled it wrong.

Bog...like Bogus.

Ever heard that term? Its kinda eighties and maybe regional I dunno.

Are you pro-choice or pro-life?

How about this.. I'm a male. I cannot get pregnant.

What if your girlfriend did...not the current girlfriend but the one you broke up with a week before you met this one?

Besides, being male does not make you exempt from having an opinion.

Oh...never mind.

OK, my 'maleness' aside.. I have no strong opinion either way about abortion. However, if I accidentally fathered a baby, I would most likely want to have it.

Thanks for answering.

By the way, the male comment was strictly a snide remark...no personal insult intended to either you or any other male around here (ok, with a few exceptions).

Some feel that the foreskin needs to be released, or fussed with often to prevent it from sticking to the head underneath, but it is a matter if maturity and that foreskin will not get stuck there forever 99.5% of the time.

Most boys play with there wiener in the tub anyway and I think that was enough, so I didn't feel the need to mess with it myself. My son liked to play peek-a-boo... so to speak.

The reason men get infections under there mostly has to do with an acidic or yeast loaded diet. Just like women, yeast is not usually born in the vagina or under the foreskin, it is deposited there by urine that has the yeast in it. Eat your yogurt people, to promote good flora in your system to prevent that yeasty bloat. And cut back on the salts and sugars when you can.

The first person to retract a boy's foreskin should be the boy himself- and only when hes ready! The infant foreskin is adhered to the glans in children. The age of retraction can be anywhere from 1 year old to 16 years old. Until it is retractable, it should never be forcibly pulled back as this will cause adhesions to form and other problems.

You were right, when you noticed your son was "playing" with himself by manipulating his genitals that this would show that he is retractile.

anyway.. ending the life of a fetus is completely different than hacking off a natural part of a baby's body. When a fetus is dead, it's over, and it doesn't know it's dead. But when a baby is circumsized, then he's going to have to live with that for the rest of his life.
