So, I need to put up my tree. I'm usually the first one to do it! This year I've been dreading it, because I don't know how I'm gonna keep the baby out of it! (She's 21 months old) I'm just having trouble getting motivated to do something that's gonna make me have to say "dont touch that", "don't eat it", "get it out of your mouth", "you can look, but don't touch" a million times, LOL! Anybody with kids have tree solutions for me? :D

I don't even own a piece of tinsel. Christmas is such a family time.

Several years, when my brothers were very young, my father hung the tree from the ceiling instead of using a stand or in addition to using a stand.

My daughter put her tree on a night stand one year to keep it out of reach of the granddaughters.

Over the years, dealing with many diferent children, I've found that it's the presents that are most in danger from children's interest. The tree itself quickly becomes a fixture in their lives but the presents are just too interesting not to investigate. Store the presents in a closet until the last minute to protect them from the depredations of children and pets.

I don't have a Christmas tree thsi year. We're putting gifts under the pool table.

I put mine in my front room and just closed the door when he was up and about. My biggest worry were the glass ornaments. Afraid he'd accidently break one and step on it or heaven forbid try and eat the shards.

If you can't do that, try and stick to only using unbreakable ornaments, things you aren't concerned with having ruined by curious lil fingers. Definately put the presents away until the night before. LoL

At 21 months old shouldn't the child know better than to touch the tree?

I wouldn't know..I never had any problems with my kids getting into the tree (or anything else for that matter).

I know this will sound quite odd, but maybe it will work for you.

One year we took the tinsle garland in green and stapled it to the wall in the shape of a tree, then stapled the orndements within it, and Xmas cards along the outside, and zig zagged the lights acrost it with staples also. We had a coffee table under it for the presents.
