Who all is dreading it or is ready for it?

My mom is already getting things for Christmas for my son and i dont even have a clue to what to get him????
What do you get a kid that has every toy known to god!!!!!!

I also noticed that Wal-mart in my area are already putting Halloween and Christmas things out together.

How sick is this? I think this is rushing it a bit dont you agree?

Now halloween im ready for......

I get to dress up and be myself and my family doesnt say a word about it. :p :p

Their own "credit card" -- AKA a gift certificate. I prefer getting Barnes and Noble or Borders cards for the granddaughters.

Giving a credit card style gift certificate not only allows the kid to buy what they want, it teaches them money management and having a "credit card" makes them feel "grown-up."

All-in-all, I think the credit card style gift certificates transcend the normal social faux pax of giving "money" instead of choosing a gift.

I noticed the Halloween stuff at Wal-Mart a few days ago. It does seem kind of early.

I'm not even thinking about Christmas yet.

It teaches responsibilty, gives them freedom of choice, and it has the additional bonus of showing that you still know what sort of thing they like.

The down side is of course that it's impossible for them to not know how much you spent on it, but still.

This isn't exactly a new phenomenon. They have been jumping the gun on every single item holiday for the past 10 years I can remember. They must be making some money on it.

The ones I hate are the rush on back to shcool stuff in the middle of July. Pisses me off.

I know this is going to sound boring and the kid most likely wont like it, but my Gramma used to get us all savings bonds or give us money until we were older and wanted other things (clothes, shoes, electronics, etc). She still gets me savings bonds though. I like getting them.

Gift cards work too, but along with my Gramma's though, why restrict them to just one store?

In my case, because Barnes and Noble or Borders sell BOOKS, not toys or clothes. Their Mom and Dad buy them clothes and toys -- I choose to encourage their love of books by sending them to a bookstore for their gift.

Borders also sells music and movies, but It's still sending them to a range of things instead of saying, "here's some money -- go buy candy and stuff."

Thank you for the warning! Honestly, in LA, you can just never tell what time of the year it is. I feel like I've been living an enternal summer for 8 years now.

Fucking desert.

Oh, just stop it. Please.:)

Christmas is the biggest sales season of the year...might as well get a jump on it and tack up a few more million...

i'm the type that does xmas shopping at a fevered pitch on the 23rd of december.

I hate people who already have their shopping done.

I'm buying my daughters that Harry Potter vibrating broom.

And lots of batteries.

My son aint getting it.

I've started on my Christmas cache... I'm not even close to being done though... the 24th sounds about right.

You know what I do though? I squirrel away stuff and then I forget about it and don't find it until February or close to that....

I hate people that are done before December. They have serious psychological problems to get done that early. EE no offense!

*I'm just wishing I was more organized to get it done before the 24th*

Well thats a good idea for kids who are about 12 yrs old and up but i hav a 6 yr old son and giving him a gif certificate for hi to get what he wants wont work. He still believes in Santa Claus and i think it would just upset him to get that in his stocking Christmas morning.
He got one for his birthday and he was cool about it but he wanted the card back and threw a hissy fit....lol

Emerald..... since your finished with your Christmas shopping, wanna do mine? :D

Usually my problem is i dont have enough money to get all of my Christmas finished at one time.
usually i have several Wal-mart layaways....LOL

My granddaughters are currently 4 and 8 (5 and 8 by Christmas.) I've given them both cards for the last two years and the elder one for four years -- but then I'm a grandparent and don't have to worry about filling the stocking or masquerading as Santa.

I gave the older granddaughter tickets to the Ballet (a performance of Cinderella) for her birthday -- Non-toy gifts don't have to be gift certificates, clothes, or books. I've also given a one year membership to a children's Discovery Museum to the elder -- I think it's the younger one's turn for a museum membership.

Depending on where you are, a museum or Zoo membership that allows him to take a friend or two along as guests is probably available and makes a good non-toy gift for kids of any age.

I think I'm going to have to come up with a better idea than a credit card for the older granddaughter -- they're getting to be "old hat" and aren't "something special and grown-up" any more. I think they work best for pre-teens and pre-schoolers -- teenagers recognise them as "just another gift certificate" so they aren't "special." The whole point is to give them an "experience" as well as a gift -- shopping on their own isn't an "experience" for a teenager.

Nah...I'm already getting my Christmas list started. Oh you meant as far as my kids go. Nah. My Drama Queen is more concerned with Halloween (Samhain) than anything else right now. Then it will be Thanksgiving. My kids are into the whole I would love this and I would love that...but they are very content with what they get. In our house...Santa makes a stop back about a week after Christmas with a leftover toy from his sleigh...(something Mommy found at one of the HUGE sales in January).

This is actually the first Christmas in years that I'm looking forward to. I just am.

I'm trying to get my nephew tickets to the circus for his birthday thats in december. they usually arent that expensive, but worthwhile in the end.

my sister took my nephew to see Scooby Doo on stage for christmas last year. he thought that was great.

I also get him books and pencils and crayons and markers.. stuff that he would enjoy playing with even though he doesnt very often.

I haven't even started and I have six children to buy for  I am thinking that it will be a light christmas at our house this year!
