The day: Christmas.
The year: 1984.
In the street, children were singing sweet songs. Admist the high whine of seven young voices, I could hear the song clearly:
"--knows when you've been sleepin', he knows when you're awake, he knows if you've bad or good, so be good for goodness sake--"
I lit my cigar and continued down the street. I was just a normal joe, I thought, but I couldn't help but feel troubled. I saw a store selling camcorders--they were closed for the night--but if I wanted a camera, I knew where to find one. But the price would be higher.
I stood under a street lamp, and thought dark thoughts to myself. Somehow, I don't think the bells went jingle jingle jingle out in Coventry.
