We have Obamacare.

Where were Chris Harper Mercer's councilors, and health professionals ?

The state left the burden of Chris Harper Mercer's care to his mother.

The state dropped the ball. He should have had a classification, and a councillor assigned to him. Where was his advocate, and advisors ?

The Army failed to inquire about Chris Harper Mercer's records.
Chris Harper Mercer was not advised against entering the military.
Someone needed Chris to be signed up, in order to add to their quota ?
Someone thought that it was a good idea to put a military rifle in Chris's hands ?
No one thought to look into his health records, and deem him unsuitable ?
How did Chris make it through the examinations, without someone noticing ?

The U.S. Army confirmed Friday it discharged Harper-Mercer just halfway through his 10 weeks of in basic training in 2008. "A review of Army records indicate that Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer was in service at Ft. Jackson, S.C., from 5 November-11 December 2008 but discharged for failing to meet the minimum administrative standards to serve in the U.S. Army," said Lt. Col. Ben Garrett.

The Army failed him. They knew from experience with Chris, that something was wrong.

Was he sent to a doctor ? Was he sent for an evaluation ?
Were there recommendations ? Did someone advise Chris ?

Or did the Army dump him on his arse, in the middle of nowhere, with nowhere to go from there ?

Old Wingnut White Men go off of the deep end, and it ends with them committing a horrendous mass murder. They place themselves in a position of no return.
Prison or death by police. A rant voiced in a manifesto.

Chris followed this pattern, and someone followed the pattern, before he did.

"Elliot Rodger, the 22-year-old who the police said killed six people near the campus of the University of California, Santa Barbara, expressed his frustration in an autobiography. MAY 25, 2014

Chris was young. His life should not have had so many hopeless turns.
He fell through the cracks.

As we watch the turmoil and anguish resulting from his decision to murder, Wingnuts are cutting more money away from mental health services, and services from the disabled. What would you expect from Wingnuts that take food away from children ? That take education money away from children ? Wingnuts that resent living babies for needing milk to live.

Last, but not least. Where did Chris get so many weapons, and so much ammunition ?

Did Chris Harper Mercer bring guns into a gun free zone ?

I, myself, am looking for a clear answer.

Umpqua Community College, however, was not a gun free zone. A 2011 state court decision prohibited public colleges from banning guns on campus. The decision stemmed from a suit filed by the Oregon Firearm Education Foundation, a gun rights group. There was an effort to pass a new law to reinstate the ability of public colleges to ban guns. That measure was defeated by gun rights advocates.

Sheriff John Hanlin – in the forefront of responding to the Umpqua Community College shootings -- testified against the background check bill this year, saying he thought it was "nearly impossible" to enforce.

2013, Hanlin wrote a letter to Vice President Joe Biden, joining with other Oregon sheriffs who said they would not enforce any additional gun laws they believed were unconstitutional.

Gun rights advocates score a double-barreled victory in the Oregon Senate

By a 15-to-14 vote, the Senate rejected Senate Bill 1594, which would have prohibited people from carrying weapons onto a school, college or university campus. The measure would have allowed local boards to adopt policies allowing those with concealed weapons permits to continue to carry.

Sen. Jeff Kruse, R-Roseburg, characterized the proposal as a "solution in search of a problem."

He asked: "Is there an issue with violence in schools? Yes."

In most cases, Kruse said the violence is committed by teens who have obtained a weapon illegally.

"This is purely a political move."

Sen. Elizabeth Steiner Hayward, D-Beaverton, said she understands the concerns about gun rights but doesn't feel they should be allowed at schools.

"On school campuses there's not a logical place to secure weapons safely," she said. "Having weapons there increases the risk."

In the end, the vote split largely along party lines with Democratic Sens. Betsy Johnson of Scappoose and Joanne Verger of Coos Bay joining the Republicans to defeat the bill.

It does not help the matter, that the news announcers were repeating the phrase, "gun free zone!"

Are they still reading that phrase, off of their teleprompters ?

(At the time, I did not think much of it. Why would they pass on misinformation to the public, when it is so easy to debunk ? *crickets* )

And here we go with the totally superfluous finger-pointing. The Army is NOT a social program. The Army had no obligation to send this killer to be examined for his mental problems by a doctor. Part of the purpose of Basic Training is to weed out those who can't cut it for any reason be it mental or physical. They don't have the time, money or manpower to follow up on everyone they deem unfit for military service. Private medical records written by a civilian doctor are just that and the Army can't force to have them presented.
The military does give its potential recruits a psychological exam during their pre-induction physical. It isn't perfect and sometimes those with mental problems fall through the cracks.
You seem to be very sympathetic to this mass murderer.

Is murdering people execution style legal in Oregon?

JBJ, is dressed in Halloween costumes ?
Laurelle will not give you your Super Anti Hero costume, back, again ?

The student code of conduct bans guns "without written authorization." Under Oregon law, the university could not ban people with a valid concealed carry license from bringing their weapons on campus. (They could ban gun from various buildings and facilities.) Conservative writer Dana Loesch, who initially claimed the campus was a "gun free zone," updated her article to clarify that individuals with concealed carry permits were allowed to bring guns on campus.

http://thinkprogress.org/justice/20...ause-public-colleges-in-oregon-cant-ban-guns/

Umpqua Community College, site of a mass shooting Thursday, bans guns, knives longer than 4 inches and other weapons from campus.

But that policy has one big exemption that renders the pastoral 100-acre campus near Roseburg anything but a gun-free zone: Everyone with a concealed firearms license is allowed to bring guns on campus.

That is because a 1989 Oregon law forbids any public body except the Legislature from restricting the rights of concealed weapons permit-holders to bring guns where they wish.

Rules at Umpqua Community College do mean that knives, air guns, paint ball guns and fireworks are prohibited on campus, as is smoking, drinking alcohol except at specially permitted functions, and skateboarding on central campus.

Guns, including handguns and rifles, are allowed on campus for people who have passed all background checks and conditions to qualify for a concealed weapon
permit.

When Western Oregon University suspended a 30-year-old student, a former Marine, for carrying a tactical knife and having an unloaded semiautomatic rifle in his pickup truck, the student and gun rights activists sued – and won.

Public colleges have no grounds to restrict concealed weapons permit-holders' rights, the Oregon Court of Appeals ruled.

Americans civilians killed by terrorists since 9/11 3000
American civilians killed by Americans with guns 150,000

You guys are your own worst enemies. You would have to have a world power invade North America to eclipse the rate at which you shoot one another down. ISIS and Al-Qaeda should give donations to the NRA. Cheapest way for them to slaughter Americans.

And for all you right wing gun nuts think about this. For every American NOT killed by an American, you can deny one refugee/immigrant admission to your country. All the western countries have birth rates too low to support tax bases and must admit new people. Get rid of guns and that is over 100k foreigners you don't have to let in. WIN WIN scenario.

Morons!

The Romans had a practice-in damnatio memoriae. Do not remember or speak of the person.

It's suitable for this type of case. Trust me on this, what the shooter wanted was to be remembered.

I don't disagree with you, but I firmly believe that the sudden interest in blocking the publication of the names of these mass shooters is just another distraction, not unlike the "it's about mental health" tripe, to keep people from seeing the foolishness of having so many guns around and available for the fantasy-fulfillment of certain young men.

What's the likelihood of someone, like Chris Harper Mercer, intent on mass murder obeying a prohibition on carrying firearms on campus?

What about the other close to 150k killed by guns. Not all of them are by deranged lunatics. One offs, lone wolfs hard to defend against but the other over 100k may be saveable. These folk would be protected by such laws.

What we are talking about is saving thousands of lives not just a dozen from a nutcase but thousands killed by "ordinary sane" Americans.

Thousands! Wrap your tiny brains around those numbers. Fucking thousands killed. 10k a year or so.

Fucking morons!

I'm really not buying that these guys want to be and expect to be remembered.

Instead of calling them 'mentally defective' perhaps the press should use the term 'another crazy bastard' and leave their names in the dirt?

How about a war on Crazy Bastards?
