How important is choosing the "right" category? What do you do if a story can cross a couple of categories

http://www.literotica.com/s/negotiat...tial-agreement

I recently posted a story titled "Negotiating My Prenuptial Agreement" & placed it in the "Loving Wives" category, since the main characters were engaged. I've received several e-mails, some rather over the top, blasting my category choice for various reasons. Anything from "they're not married yet" so it should be in "Erotic Coupling" to there are two girls involved so it should be in "Group." Even, for me to consider exibitionist category since they wear lingerie or BDSM since the point of the story is to control the male in the story.

When I read stories I typically don't pay much attention to the categories, other than avoiding a select few. Are there a lot of people who just read one category & really get that offended if the story doesn't exactly match their expectations?

Question for the group: How important is choosing the "right" category?

Imperative. Readers bring their expectations with them. How ticked would you be if you went to a movie billed as a romantic comedy and had to sit through a horror flick?

It's even worse in the smut world where the ante gets upped because Kinks are an incredibly individual thing. What turns one reader on disgusts another. Choose your categories carefully, girlie.

Posting a story on Literotica, for the most part, is left to the author and readers will let you know if they feel you have posted the story in the wrong category. From my experience, Loving Wives is a tough category and readers are very vocal about what they feel is a loving wife story. The only time I will comment that a story is not a loving wife story is when the story reads more as a romance story or when there is an overriding theme such as BDSM to the story. When I choose a category I tend to choose the one that is the best fit. Many of my stories such as Weekend Getaway touches on several different categories. However, I chose Group Sex category due to the story having multiple sex partners and my feeling it was not a loving wife story.

I agree with Paco, readers visit categories with expectations, so selecting the correct category is crucial. I have heard that it's possible to have a story moved from one category to another, but I've never done it.
