This might seem a little strange for Lit, but I decided to post it because it touched me. The teachers at my daughter's school decided that this year, they will help the children write a letter to Santa. Each child spent most of today working on their letter. The teachers helped them type it out and email it to " Santa" after checking that this is exactly, verbatim, what the child had to say.
C (my daughter) is 5, and this is her letter. . .
Dear Santa,
I’m writing this from London but I’ll be in South Africa for Christmas. Don’t get all confused, okay?
I’ve been good. I’ve done lots of art things at school that were framed. I’ve written lots of words and sentences all by myself and I can read well now. I can do pictures very very nicely and I don’t go out of the lines.
I’ ve been good at home too with brushing my hair and stuff in the morning. I got a cd player for being good and I go to sleep all on my own with my music without bothering mummy. Sometimes I even help with the dishes when mummy let’s me. And it’s my chore to feed the cat and I do that with love because she’s my pet.
I say please and thank you all the time. I have good manners and I always listen to my teachers and my mum.
Please can I have an electric quad bike that goes super-super fast? And some new Playstation games like my dad’s but for kids. And I want a princess tent for my room please. One with stars and moons in.
Please can you give all the dear children who don’t have any stuff some clothes, and a house and give them a bed and blankie. Give them everything that they should have.
Please can you make the sick people in the world better. Thank you for that.
Could you help my mummy be not so sad please? She’s sad all the time. She still loves me and plays with me like she used to but I know she cries when I’m not looking and she misses the baby. I don’t want you to send her another baby but just make her ok please?
Please send presents to my Oupa and Nanna in South Africa and to Aunty Abs and her kids in America.
I love you, Santa
