Chicago Lit together?

Excellent! I think we've got plenty for a quorum. Anyone have any thoughts on dates? October?

Anything after mid-September is definitely doable for me, assuming I find a house.

If a lit-together ever made it out to an aquarium or to a museum it would be....weird? disappointing? very surprising??

What's wrong with the aquarium? *sniff* ;)

Mmm, about 500 miles? Pack lots of snack for the road trip.

After driving to Canada and back, straight through, 500 miles is a piece of cake. ;)

Nothing. We just tend to get ... sidetracked. ;)

So if we get a huge suite at the Westin and get it all over with, then afterwards we can go to the aquarium? :D

What is this "over with" of which you speak?

Sigh. Would love to come. Pretty close to me as well.

Don't have the money for it. :(

Fantastic!

I do miss SF, though. The humidity is unbearable, the landscape is so FLAT, and where the hell is the Ocean?!!!

Yet...Chicago faces are so...homey. :)

The recent humidity is unbearable--and abnormal. Things are generally bad here weatherwise, but usually not this bad. I just got off the plane from Atlanta, and Atlanta was positively balmy compared to what greeted me when I stepped out of the airport. It's like a steam bath here.

This is my hometown though, and I'd do a Lit get-together too. Let me know the details, or if you want me to suggest some details--a drunken bachanale in Greek Town, for example

I volunteer at the Field Museum of Natural History. If we don't have a mob of thousands, I can probably get us all in free, and into the Shedd Aquarium too (one of my perqs is free admittance for "family" to the Shedd and the Adler planetarium).

I don't know how far my perqs can be stretched (are Lit members "family"? Is that incestuous?), but I can find out. I'll have to ask them if they have special discounts for pornographers. :D

King Tut is at the Field now, and I think I can get guests in for $10 a pop, but it's a mad house. Crowds like you wouldn't believe.

Depending on my gig schedule I could probably make it to a Chicago Litogether in late September or October. I'm about 3 hours away and I head up there a few times a year anyway. With things coming in as qucikly as they are right now I can't really plan much of anything at this point.

Zoot, I think it is really cool that you volunteer at the Field Museum. I love going there! Adler's Planetarium is cool, too. I've never been to Shedd Aquarium, though. Everyone tells me that I "have" to, but so far I haven't made it.

Oh yay! I might be able to make it! :nana:
*pokes Rob*

some friends and I are thinking of having a Lit together up here.. even started a poll to see some opinions on where would be better to host.. if we end up in Toronto, you'd definitely be able to make that..

I would love to make the Chicago one, but I still have a problem crossing into America and that just makes it such a stresser for me.. I have a new job lined up, but probably won't get it before you guys would have this get together.. but, I'll be making almost 4 times as much if I get it.. Will get a lawyer to deal with this international travel crap. heh

:D Believe it!

Unless it's going to be hosted by someone else, or we come up with other plans, I think it's dead.

LadyJ left a few days ago and I don't think she's coming back. :(

Sarahh and I were trying to organize it a month ago, but put it off until after the New York one (so as to not muddle everything). I am not the organizing type (I'm still too new around here), but I told her and Jeanne that I would do all the legwork to get everything taken care of. But we need someone who's a Lit regular to 'author wrangle' (kind of like cattle wrangling, but a lot tougher). :D

Say what? Why?

Damn! Just found this thread & looks like the party was over before it started.
Whatever, count me in for anything reasonably local. I could prob'ly put a couple of people up too, if hotel $ is a problem.

Um.
I don't like it.
And I don't want it to be true.

It is though...I tried to talk her out of it...
